Smoke

Smoke

Can you edit smoke or copy smoke from one engine to another. I have an 2-4-2 tank that has some nice smoke and would like to use it on another.

Yes John, its usually a child object so you can mix them up, but remember that if you do, all the developers who's smoke/steam you use will have to be selected in the editor for them all to work. If you have to reposition any smoke emitters that can be hours of fun the way I do it, trial and error

Thanks Bri

The smoke is from the locos in the Bacup Branch.

The next question is how do you do it. This is like being back at school.

Yes, I'd appreciate a 'how to do it' walk through, too. It would be very useful to learn how to move the smoke effects from one engine on another as some smoke is considerably better than others.

Thanks (in anticipation)

Smoke

It's pretty simple to do - the smoke emitters are child objects referred to by the bin file. First find and note the location of the emitters you want to use.

Open the bin file with RWtools and use F2 to search for "child" amongst the child entries will be the smoke emitter(s) and should be quite obvious - you need to change the references to point to your new emitters.

The only issue is having to tick the folder of the smoke provider to make it work in scenarios.

John - I love the L&Y smoke on the 2-4-2 too (been looking at the real thing at the NRM today :-) ) You might be better to copy the smoke into the folder you want to use to avoid having to tick another developer folder to work in scenarios.

Must finish those reskins!

The smoke now has more shape. The smoke was done by Peter Holton who made the locos for the Bacup Branch

What I like to know is how to edit the smoke to slow it down

Yes, thanks so far.

Any pointers as to how to edit the particles - emission rate, density, colour etc.
