I went into my Bluebell Railway route for the first time after this patch and although the decals seemed to be following the terrain, my holding models were nowhere to be seen and I eventually found them under the decals sitting on a flat terrain. Fortunately, exiting the route and running it again seemed to cure the problem.

There was also the incident on The Lavender Line where the whole prodedural assets folder disappeared after the earlier update and the only way to cure that was to replace the missing file with a back up copy.

I am also experiencing slow loading of lofted items (15-30 seconds typically) in version 11 in the scenario editor although this does not seem to affect the routes in gameplay.

There does seem to be an improvement with image stability with version 11 and smoother running, even when frame rates are low. It is very difficult to really assess what is going on after hours of trying different combinations of settings as you forget how they really compare to each other, but I would say that now even at 15/16 FPS where there is still a slideshow effect, this is smooth and consistent and is probably the least irritating of the program's quirks.

Yes I too see the slow loading of assets in Scenario Editor too. In fact I thought that the Woodhead line had been closed again and all the track dismantled for a minute before I noticed that all the trains were still there.

Similar to the loft problem here is a screenshot of me trying to select the track at Sheffield Platform 5 (it is a shame that my pointer isn't in the shot). You can see that rather than select the track immediately to the right of the platform the "tool" has instead gone for, presumably, the next loft further on to the right. Quite a few people have now reported this so I am surprised that RSC hasn't seen it themselves :-?

One other thing that is still annoying me with lofts is that some are still not displaying properly and I was just wondering why. The cobbled roads still give a "stripey" effect (with every other section laid darker) and there are fences still with no fence posts etc etc (a screenshot of the former below).

It may be that some of these are freeware (the cobbled roads are) but I am just wondering why RW3 seemed to have "broken" them. I have no idea how to fix them and now my own route looks really odd. Something like Candlewick looks, on my system, even worse as the author has cobbled large areas of his towns. I keep asking if it is me and there is something wrong with my set up however several other people have reported the same. It's a shame because, in my case, it has stopped me from developing my route but now, also, writing scenarios is becoming annoying by constantly seeing odd lofts all the time.

I'm just curious as to why this has happened. What is different in RW3 to RW2? Perhaps Derek could enlighten us a little bit in this regard?

Thanks

Those lofts need re exporting by the author to get rid of the stripey effect. The difference is in the lighting and probably which way the polygon normals are facing, In this case you will have one normal facing up and one facing down (as it would have been mirrored, which is where we see this problem).
This results in different shading because the game thinks the polygon is facing away from the light source.
In RWs 2 it did not matter so much, but it does in RWs3.

regards

Derek

I don't face any new problems with the editor so far.
The only thing I noticed is that the x,y,z arrows for asset placement now take about one second to load their red, green, blue, yellow texture.

Scenario: Off the Cotswold line.

East facing buildings, like Oxford station, are brightly lit and trees on the east side of the track casts nice sharp edged shadows across the line. In front of and over the train, the sky is grey. From memory not an uncommon experience in The United Kingdom - or for that matter in any other landmass where precipitation occurs. So, I looked to the left (east) for the familiar stripe of blue skies with the bright glare of my favourite star. Nothing, it is overcast and the sun can be spottet as a slightly lighter spot on the cloud cover to the east.

I've just put a email to support re: the loft problem - would hope anyone else with it will report too, so they guys get a view of how many it's affecting.

Same here, generic response so far.

To be fair, I got "Thanks for the feedback a few people have mentioned it, and it has been passed on." on top of the generic response - hopefully it's getting looked into.

I know people are getting frustrated with the problems that they are having but please be accurate with your posts:
Retro wrote:Have emailed support about the Route Editor Problems which according to Derek do not exist
Derek has said no such thing. He gave us his experiences of route building and asked for those experiancing problems to email support as he is "interested to know more about what folks are experiencing".
RSderek wrote:I've been route building for the past 4 weeks and not had 1 crash, or seen any slow down.
Now I have not been using many lofts but those I have placed I've not noticed any issues.
I have also not heard any reports of such slow down from the dev teams, however I am interested to know more about what folks are experiencing so please do let support know.

regards
Derek
I am not aware of any post where Derek says the problems do not exist. If I am wrong point me to the post which states this. Otherwise please do not inflame an already difficult situation with inaccurate posts as it does not help anyone.

Jim.

bigvern wrote:Agree Mike, although the number of serious route builders (perhaps less than a hundred worldwide) is very low compared to the overall userbase, this aspect cannot be neglected for much longer as keeping new routes coming - regardless whether freeware or payware - is an essential part of the lifeblood of the sim. I'm sure I recall a post last year by Paul Jackson which indicated putting out public documentation on the new features was not a priority and it appears that ethos has also been applied to fixing the tools too!
Good post Vern. They can probably think they can afford to loose all the Route Builders. We are not a priority
Kind regards James.

Sorry Derek I must have not read your post properly.
Sorry Jim but my Route Building has come to a halt yet again and it is more than frustrating to me especially in the light of my ongoing health problems getting worse.
Kind regards James.

Where has this number of only 100 route builders worldwide been arrived at from? I suspect it is much, much higher than that as many will build routes with no intention or desire ever to share them with anybody else. The term "serious route builder" is a little condescending also.

I think you are probably right Steve but only Vern can answer this question. I think if you look at the number of Routes released or being worked on from the evidence on these Forums it is probably about right. Many people however do not post about their activities. It would be interesting to know how many people do use the Route Editor as it is the main source of pleasure for me.
Thanks Jim for your reply. Much appreciated.
Kind regards James.
