Re: DT Rebuilt Westcountry
I suppose in looks and valve gear only could these beasts be considered 'standard'! In every other way, still the Bulleid pacifics designed by Oliver!! Still, possibly, the best boiler ever made in this country!

I don't think it shares any parts with any BR standards does it? if you're calling Walschaert's gear "standard" then 50% of everything is a standard! Would have been interesting if OVB had gone for Caprotti gear instead of the dodgy chain drive ( or even if the rebuilds had gone that way ).
My posts are my opinion, and should be read as such.

Re: DT Rebuilt Westcountry
All ready sent a email direct to DT as i couldnt find the JT support email.
Also got a reply from DT saying a fix is on its way as Hartland was a late addition and that some source files must have been messed up, and unsure how it got through testung. Also have apoligized for that.
Apart from that the locomotive is fantastic, great fun to use and drive, over 40 miles got a average speed of 65mph with a mixture of Mansual and Mark 1s which i had a total of 12 coaches.

Yes, I've emailed DT and refered them to this thread. They have already replied to say thats been fixed but waiting a day or two to make sure nothing else needs sorting before putting out a patch.
Thats what I call service but from them thats "standard".
Cheers Ron

Has anyone got any helpful tips as to how to prevent the chuff or whistle from stuttering and becoming truncated after a while. I know this is not an issue with this model per se as it seems to have been something I have suffered from ever since Rail SImulator days. Because of it I probably don't drive so many steam engines as I would like but couldn't resist this one but as ever half way to Bath the sound starts to vanish. Only a complete exit from TS2012 seems to bring it back.
Re: DT Rebuilt Westcountry
Can't seem to control the flow of water to the injectors with keyboard controls either. Bit of a pain, as i don't like the F4 function, tend to use F5 only. Other than those minor niggles it's brilliant.

Re: DT Rebuilt Westcountry
Its an issue with the priority of sounds and is down to (1) how the game handles sounds and (2) how the sounds are set up. In simple terms, the game can only play so many sounds, so at point where a lot of sounds are playing, the game turns them off in order of priority. I believe that priority is set up within each sound set, but that the default set up doesn't use this feature particularly well, hence the cutting out of steam sounds particularly when you pass AI. I've not seen the set up for this loco, but if it follows the default approach (as most do) then it will suffer the same problem. I'm not sure if there are any steam soundsets that overcome this issue, Matt (92212) or Richard Armstrong probably understand this better than I do and whether it is possible to improve this, but ultimately its a core issue that has been there since RS days. There's a list of those and its not getting any shorterThugsy wrote:Has anyone got any helpful tips as to how to prevent the chuff or whistle from stuttering and becoming truncated after a while. Looking forward to running this one, I'm not particularly into Southern things but there is something rather majestic about the Bulleid pacifics in their rebuilt form.

JT support also got back to me (Outstanding Customer Service JT!) and mentioned the keyboard issues will be fixed in a forth coming patch.

Re: DT Rebuilt Westcountry
What I was referring to the standard, is the look of the locomotive, yes it still had bullied design underneath but it took on characteristics of the standards, the smoke deflectors were one part of this as were the overall changes to the design to make it more effective.
As per wiki entry:
'Tis not like I said it drives like a GWR and looks like a LMS locomotive, now is it.
As per wiki entry:
Its not a full standard design like say a Brit, but it did take on some of the standard design philosphies when rebuilt. Granted we can still argue its a bullied underneath, but it has some of the looks of the standards, hence what I said, so I'm not to far out there when I say that"Due to the problems experienced with the class, and following the success of the rebuilt Merchant Navy class designed by R. G. Jarvis, British Railways ordered the rebuilding of sixty locomotives to a more conventional design at Eastleigh between 1957 and 1961.[43] The first locomotive to be rebuilt was No. 34005 Barnstaple, which adopted many features from the BR 'Standard' locomotive classes.[44] The casing was removed and replaced with conventional boiler cladding, boiler pressure reduced to 250 psi (1.72 MPa) and the chain-driven valve gear was replaced with modified Walschaerts valve gear fitted between the frames"

Re: DT Rebuilt Westcountry
If you squint hard enough the rebuilt Bullied pacifics are definately similar to a Britannia or Clan, and I wouldn't be surprised if they were actually based on the BR pacifics. The most notable similarity to my eyes is the BR standard style running plate, particularly around the bufferbeam and smokebox, although its not as high as a that of a BR standard.
On my list, providing patches are released to map fireman's functions to keys. Superb work DT, well done.

Re: DT Rebuilt Westcountry
I believe they were rebuilt based on Standard as much as possible, hence the sort of similar look when you squint.
If only all problems on the big railway could simply be TAB'd past...

Re: DT Rebuilt Westcountry
Some things that were done during the rebuilding seem quite radical to me. The steam flow was swapped between inside and outside admission (can't remember which way round) but that suggests a lot of changes in the plumbing. Did the rebuilds get a completely new valve/cylinder block, I wonder?
