Just checked the firebox door, doesn't seem to be mapped to the F key or has any clickable control area for the firebox, probably something overlooked/bug.
Thanks for confirming CZ. Intrestingly if you open the Firebox with the F4 Hud you can close it with the F key. So im inclined to agree this is a bug rather than a feature.

Yes the cab view is really just a minor niggle, I keep my head out most of the time. I must say apart from the Firebox issue, I am loving this engine the more I drive it.

Evening everyone,

Here's a shot of a WC shortly after leaving Templecombe Upper with a Bath train.

Very Best Wishes,

Well, completed a scenario and first impressions confirmed. A really high quality pack with engine and rolling stock to match. A real joy to drive.

Well done DT and JT.

Just gone and brought it and downloaded + installed.

Shall test it a bit later, Main reason for getting it as Taw Valley (was as Ottery Saint Mary at the time) was the first tender locomotive i got a cab ride on at the SVR.

Just downloaded and I am impressed with the model, cab and features (love the cab lights and headcode discs :)), I have yet to try out the Maunsell coaches though having looked at them I am not expecting to be disappointed.
The sounds, chuffs in particular, are a big improvement on the unrebuilt though I am not too impressed with the beat, yes it does do 6 chuffs to the rotation but when going at 20mph or more it sounds like your average 2-cylinder loco, a very much like the unrebuilt.
For me, the beat just needs a bit of tweaking and then it would be spot on.

Can someone do a quick test for me.

If i number one 34027 (Taw Valley) The incorrect nameplate comes up being Hartland.
If i number it any off the other locomotives e.g. 34026 (Yes Tor) or 34001 (Exeter) it works correctly.

Hm, pity I've bought the Maunsells twice now, but c'est la vie I guess. Quite like the engine itself. Anyone else found the front bogie turns the wrong way in corners? the wheels seem to stop rotating too.

Another great DT product. As I have said before, where would us UK steam fans be without them.

Kariban - the DT Maunsell carriage pack contains only a Brake Composite (BCK) and Composite (CK), the new RLP pack includes those plus a Brake Third (BSK) and Third (SK) which now allows most of the common 2- and 3-coach set configurations.

Here's something from an earlier post of mine:
SR coaches ran in fixed "sets", which for longer trains would be combined as required with individual "strengthening" coaches and catering vehicles.

Usual Maunsell 2-coach sets:
Brake Composite-Open Second
Brake Third-Brake Composite

Usual 3 Coach Sets:
Brake Third-Composite-Brake Third
Brake Composite-Third-Brake Composite

Hi,

Think I've found the reason for the Taw Valley nameplate problem but can't find a cure.

In the main loco geopcdx it appears to refer to the name plate just as "taw", this is also mentioned in a lua file just by that name. However the nameplate file is called "tawvalley". Doing the obvious of changing the nameplate file name does not work as it has the name embedded in the file and I'm not that clever. I did also try changing the name in the geopcdx file but RW Tools wasnt able to recompress the file and aborted. :(

Also found in the dcsv file that it lists one number as 34024 but 34027 is missing. That appears to be a silly error as well that will need correcting.

Cheers Ron

Have you folks contacted JT support so they can pass the nameplate issue onto DT to fix? All very well discussing here, and its confirmed its not working by members but we do need the bug reporting going to the right area so it can be looked into.

Anyhow, I enjoyed this for a couple of hours lastnight and have to say the more I use it the more I'm enjoying driving it. I can't help feel I enjoy these standard designs more because of there rugged workhorse feel to them, its something about the shape and feel for them which does it for me, you can tell its still a pacific but its become just something else with the modifications which were drawn up to change the look of the locomotive.

It is somewhat remarkable to think ,with the opposition which steam was against and the growing public image that steam was dirty and wasteful that these designs still came to the light of day, the standard designs to me hold the charm of earlier era designs yet pulling off a overall modern image for there time, fitting in with the other standard designs which came out, namely Brits, 9Fs, clans and the different standard 4s and 5s.

I sorely miss the fact that the inventive flair and design looks are missing from modern era traction, to me a steam engine represents power and something which is alive, they speak with there exshaust beat, they have moods and don't want to fire or fire happy and steam well and they can be as stubborn as a mule.

Yet for essentially being a machine which boils water by the process of burning coal and turning that into motive power, they have sparked such imagination and romance from a era which is now gone.

At the end of the day, I give thanks to the fact we have people like DT and other 3rd party developers who bring these beasts of legend back to life in a easy accessable manner, its not always easy to get to the perserved lines, and with the technological know how for steam engines slowly petering out and the places which can build the parts become less we have to make do with what we can, so to have the ability to jump into these machines in a few minutes is something which I personally am very grateful.

So I look forward to what the future holds when it comes down to more steam engines from DT, if this release has proven anything, we should be in for a treat.

Um, "standard design"? it's a Bullied pacific with the casing removed and some new valvegear. You might as well call Castles and Black 5s "standard designs" if you went down that train of thought.

And no I haven't reported anything yet, because I was looking for corroboration.
