I've lost track of the number of small fixes, updates etc that I have downloaded and installed that will get rolled back by this update, can't bear the thought of having to install the lot again!

I opened this thread (http://ftp.atomic-systems.com/viewtopic ... 5#p1490955) last year regarding re-installing assets after doing a verify cache and remembering where you'd obtained them all from in the first place, there were a few good answers that folks may, or not, find useful in remembering what needs to be re-installed tonight/tomorrow after this core update, for those who may have been wondering what to do, just a thought.

Had a good check through. Seems it was my 390 update part 2
For disclosure, I am affiliated with a third party developer however, I do not know anything about any future releases unless I'm working on them and even then, I'd be breaking years worth of built up trust to say anything about it ;-)

Hi, I notice people keep saying that W7 64-bit is the way to go, and I would like to do that, but is it not the case that you can only use the 64-bit programme if your processor is 64-bit capable. I was not aware of this and only found this out by accident, which means to upgrade the OS I now need to buy a new motherboard, processor and RAM. Can anyone confirm if this is the case.

All the best, Richard.

You need a 64 bit processor to run Windows 64 bit.

Scroll down from this link to see AMD's 64 bit range and then Intel's range. I'd be surprised if you don't already have a 64 bit CPU.

Half the bullet points of this update make little sense to me, but hey. Alright.

I'll once again back up what I can of my Routes/Assets/Source folders.

Processors have been 64 bit capable for quite a long time now :)

The single core processor of my office computer has a label to show that it is an AMD 64 Athlone FX processor, and I bought that 6 months before Rail Simulator was launched. Long before W7 was available.

You can't be too careful I suppose, but a core update shouldn't overwrite any added or modified content either from Steam or other sources, unless the content is also being updated which as far as I know hasn't been mentioned. Only a verification of the game cache seems to put all Steam content back to original.

Hi Steve;

Many thanks for that... It has certainly reminded me of a few things I would probably have forgotten.

Had to chuckle when I see some people's style of posting has not changed since the post was opened on the last thread

Thanks again Steve

Hi, not sure if this information helps with finding out if I can run a 64-bit programme but according to my system info I have an Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q6600 @ 2.40GHz 3.00Ghz

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

All the best, Richard.

Yes you are fine. Core 2s are 64 bit processors: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_Core_2.
