Re: Railworks core updates!
What's an exciting list of fixes for one, is boring and meh for another.FoggyMorning wrote:I don't think it's meant to be particularly exciting (a la the launch of TS2012 in September), just a general fix/clean up of some widely reported issuesbigvern wrote:I am glad to see they have got round to fixing the bridge lofts, but as I posted in the other thread the list is relatively unexciting unless there are other as yet undocumented effects.
I can totally sympathize with Vern for wanting the issues fixed that he mentioned, and any improvements to, say, loco physics would be much welcomed.
However, my PC being at the very bottom end of what is still somewhat "RW3 - Capable", I'm quite excited by anything that promises to improve performance
(I'm running in TSX mode because I like the light effects and because trains look more realistic, but with resolution really low and all graphics settings close to minimum and no shadows, I'm excited any time my framerate hits 20 fps even on simple default routes. Hovering around the minimum of 14fps is more like it for me.)
Wishing it was 7pm already

Re: Railworks core updates!
Hi,i can see the urgent need for making RW3 compatible with as wide a range of system specs as possible, failing to do so would be turning your back on probably 2/3 of the user base, especially in the economic climate, expensive upgrades are not an option for most people.
But, i wish long running problems could be addressed,ie, sound problems, the horn or whistle being reduced to a split second squeake,or nothing at all,the almost ghostly hissing sound that continues on and on after brake applicaton in the HST, it even continues when you close the scenario, and drones on into the menu screens,Disapearing fence posts, this has been with us since RS,SBHHH when copy and pasteing lofts, wobbly cab syndrome, erratic signals, these are the issues that leap out at you, fixing them would be instantly recognisable by users, reading through the list of core fixes very few of these will be leaping out at you.
Regards
Kev

Re: Railworks core updates!
Agree with your synopsis entirely Kev, this sounds like an update to address performance issues as opposed to a bug fixing update. Great news for me being someone operating on the lower end of the PC specification spectrum but maybe not so exciting if you operate a NASA rig and performance is not an issue for you.growler37 wrote:Hi,i can see the urgent need for making RW3 compatible with as wide a range of system specs as possible, failing to do so would be turning your back on probably 2/3 of the user base, especially in the economic climate, expensive upgrades are not an option for most people.

You touch on a good point regarding peoples ability to splash out on expensive PC upgrades. If this situation with Railworks was happening 10 years ago then I'd have simply bought a NASA PC on one of my many credit cards or taken out a personal loan or credit deal with a major PC supplier. That kind of credit is simply not available on tap anymore and even if you can get credit, with severe job uncertainty hanging over everyone's heads and with further government cuts planned to wages, pensions, benefits and tax credits etc then blowing a grand on a new super-rig just isn't going to happen for the masses. I was drawing breath through my teeth in fear last week splashing out on a 25 quid RAM stick! That's how much my life has changed from the days of my twenties in secure, well paid employment with money to burn. Not anymore sir.

Re: Railworks core updates!
Hi Jimmy
I think there have been problems at each end of the hardware scale. Some hi spec computers have been having problems as well although more to do with graphics than frame rates. An expensive computer does not guarantee a perfect performance but hopefully everyone will see an improvement with this update.
I have noticed a general consensus that Windows 7 64 bit seems to work well with TS2012 so perhaps that is a good starting point for computer upgrading.

Re: Railworks core updates!
The bug fixes that Kev mentioned would be very nice, but will most likely come at somepoint in the future. Being able to get the game to run as smoothly on all the wide range of systems that use it is the most important thing overal.
Also Jimmy even those with the so called 'Nasa' computers are having serious trouble running it as well, seemly mostly AMD/ATI users are having that trouble which is a big shame. My rig is no where near some of the High spec ones some have got. But it is still quite well speced for many things, but i suffer from real performance issues in the game though. As Geoff said having an expensive system doesn't guarantee brillant smooth running running on this.
Anyway from that though, as mentioned earlier i look forward to seeing what the new performance gains are on the release of the core update today though. But until then back to Skyrim instead.

Geoff I dont have budget to do that.I have noticed a general consensus that Windows 7 64 bit seems to work well with TS2012 so perhaps that is a good starting point for computer upgrading.

Re: Railworks core updates!
John, you could try Windows 8 64-bit, which is being offered free as a beta by Microsoft. Seems to work fine from what I heard. Have yet to install it though, as I must back up everything since you would have to format your hard disk if you are on a 32bit machine like me

Re: Railworks core updates!
Well 148mb has just downloaded for RW when I started Steam. I take it that's the update.
For disclosure, I am affiliated with a third party developer however, I do not know anything about any future releases unless I'm working on them and even then, I'd be breaking years worth of built up trust to say anything about it

Stand down Geoff, Im still on v7.1a
Must've been a DLC update I missed. Have we had any since the 390?

Re: Railworks core updates!
The 390 did receive a second update, so most likely was that.

Re: Railworks core updates!
Well, they issued a quick update to the 390 the following day which was quite hefty, if I remember correctly. Perhaps if you've been offline since then, you missed it.
