On the MSTS side, at least for the UK, preserved railways seems to have been a big hit, could it be that RS.com has decided to go down this route as well? (I have no idea about preserved railways north of Manchester though).

I hope not, no fan of heritage railways in sims, nothing worse for me than a 25mph statutory limit.

This sort of thing reminds me of a long row of dinner plates spinning around on the top of sticks, with a magician (RS.com) walking up and down twiddling the sticks (hinting at another route) just to keep them all spinning!
Quite an amusing act.
Gets boring after a while though...

I'm all for some preserved routes being given the commercial developer treatment. East Lancashire Railway would be great for it's decent length and huge variety of traction. Or, if you want to get away from 25mph speedlimits then how about the Dartmoor Railway which is quite unique in being a preserved railway running over mainline owned metals? Has some speedlimits up to and over 40mph in places. I remember some hoofing diesel galas there, particularly a "slug" 37 on a prolonged full bore run thundering up towards Okehampton at 40mph. Magic!

However, if preserved routes are to take off in RW then some serious work needs to be done on loco physics first. Being able to accelerate a class 37 in notch 1 from 0-25 in 5 seconds will not be enough time for the engine to even ramp up to full power before you'd have to shut off the throttle. Being able to accelerate uphill in notch 1 is also an immersion killer. Even on preserved railways, loco's have to work hard at least some of the time.

I think it unlikely that RS.com would create a Preserved Railway route for commercial purposes.

Apart from the limited scope, there would no doubt be licensing matters to consider and a number of other factors that would make it difficult to do. Perhaps a charity version, but again this seems unlikely.

Iconic routes of the past or present seems most likely, and I personally would not rule out Settle Carlisle.

Also to consider, what happened to "Northern Lights"? Wasn't that adopted by RSC? If it hasn't fallen by the wayside it ought to be getting close to completion by now.

Re earlier comments in the thread, I don't see that a little speculation causes any harm. The announcement was obviously intended to provoke some interest and it also provides a bit of market research for developers as to what future routes might be crowd pleasers!

It was done so by Just Trains. Have no idea how far it is from completion though.

I personally would like to see some more West Midland routes. Preferbly rather current period Stafford - Wolverhampton - New Street - Coventry, or the Snow Hill lines would be intresting. If steam based go back a bit futher and have the old GWR mainline into Wolverhampton so can have both stations open again.

Rising Storm -Name is in the credits :D - To Do scenario, where you go along at 50mph in a Pendo? Who would play it?
Anyone want to help in Play Testing future Rising Storm/ Ro2 Maps? If so please PM me.

They did do the Tornado though (Although that would probably be a very popularmodel)

but a small Preserved Line wouldn;t require as much work to it as some of the longer routes, I would think? The IoW route does feature the IoW steam railway...

I would have to quit my most suited occupation regarding TS2012 if too many marvellous preserved lines started appearing

A couple mentioned here are on my list already, and I bet RSC would do a far better job.

I have another theory.

I bet they post "guess which route we are working on next" type messages to encourage lots of guesswork, then they look to see what people say and pick and choose from the ideas ;)
