Blue screen

Post by Bassno9 »

Sort this if you can 'cause I can't! Since the 390 update I get blue screen whenever I run 390 scenarios. Other WCMLN scenarios fine and other routes. I've never had major problems with Railworks and I'm running it in TSX mode. System:- overclocked i3 4.2ghz, nvidea GTX 460 768meg and 4gig of system memory. Ta all!

Try easing up on the overclocking or the graphics settings, the BSOD is probably due to components of your system shutting down for self-protection.

It is also worth pointing out (again) that there is nothing for UKTS to "sort out" since official support is via the RSC support email.

OK then, let's start again...

I'd say that the CPU is probably OC'd to within an inch of its life.
Has it been 'soak-tested' at this speed (100% usage for several hours) using stress software of some sort?
If not then I'd guess that this is the problem.
Take it down to 4GHz and try again or, if you can, run a stress test and prove that the OC is stable...

Since it has triggered since the update, which introduces some intensive AI movement alongside the 390 its likely that its the overclock i3 BSOD'ing on you. TS2012 puts more strain on the CPU rather than graphics card, since you have 4gigs of ram aswell then even more strain is put on the CPU, with it being WCML aswell it will be pushing the system to its limit since its not fully optimised to use mutli-core yet.

BSODs are triggered mostly by two things: a bad windows installation and corruption after a windows update or hardware, since its evident you have a overclocked processor then that is the easiest area to troubleshoot. Personally, I wouldn't overclock a i3, they don't have a very good tollerance for overclocking even with ample heat sinking and there stepping and performance is alot less than to be desired.

If the BSOD happens again, write down the error number/information and google it, its most likely to reveal some more indepth information as to what is causing it, but its most likely the overclocked i3.

Also you don't mention which version of windows you are using or weather its 32bit or 64bit so only guestimates can be given I also don't think uktrainsim forums is the most ideal place to troubleshoot computer related problems even though it may seem the problem has arisen from the recent update, the update has most likely to have triggered the problem which was going to eventually show up at some point in the future anyway.

Unfortunately, as these codes are generated by the operating system, there are none that would definitively specify that an overclock caused the BSoD. But if you experience 2 or 3 different error messages randomly and ONLY these same ones (especially if any mention IRQ) then this is most probably due to the CPU being pushed a little too hard.
It may be that the stated OC can be made to be stable via use of an overvolt (BE CAREFUL!) of the CPU but this obviously comes at the expense of higher running temperatures (which in themselves may also cause problems...).

Thankyou railsimulator.com! No blue screen running class 390 on WCML since core update. Yes! yes! (Also running latest nvidia beta driver and x-fi support pack 2.5) Oh happy days
