Easiest way is with RW Tools, if you haven't got it then you really should as it is the key to doing many mods that will enhance your experience.
In RW Tools go to Open Railworks File in the top left, navigate through the assets folders to the loco you want to change and keep going therein until you find a folder called Cabview. Within this folder is a file called "cab camera.bin" There will be a prefix depending on the loco folder you are in i.e. Class 37 cab camera.bin. Double click to open it up.
You will see lots of lines of text, scroll down until you see a group of 3 lines with X, Y & Z at the start and end of each row. There are lots of groups of X, Y, Z but just focus on the first set you come to.
Changing the numbers at the ends of these rows will adjust the cabview. You only need to change the numbers a small amount to make a big difference i.e. 3.0100 to 3.0000 but you must keep the same number of decimal places.
The Y value controls the height of the "seat". Higher number raises the viewpoint.
The Z value controls the distance from the windscreen. Higher number = closer to the window.
The X value controls left and right shift. I rarely use this one.
Save the file, jobs done!
If you don't have RW Tools then feel free to send me a Private Message with details of any cabviews you want changing and I might be able to do it for you and send you the modified cab camera.bin file.
Once you've mastered the above you can change any loco to suit your preference. I've changed loads and it makes a huge difference to realism for some of the poorly set up default cabviews.

I like to modify cabviews to be at the correct height for the drivers eye level.
I've changed the following cabviews, if there is sufficient demand I could upload the modified .bin files to UKTS if anyone is interested??
Class 47 - Raised the view as the default is too low and has you just peeking over the dash!
Class 37 - Slightly lowered the view as default is too high
Class 76 - Raised the view for same reasons as class 47
I've also amended dozens of "other" cabviews, some of which we can't discuss but if anyone needs help please send a PM.

Another fun thing to do is make the driver appear in cabview and tweak the camera to give the illusion you aren't just a floating head in cabview.
Optionally you can add Derek as cab passenger to keep you company also. He doesn't talk and is a little stiff but he's good company.

Amen to that Jimmy, I have been doing the same (thanks for the tip btw

Thanks Jimmyshand for your advice worked perfect for the Black 5, but cannot get the drivers view to move on the 2p. I've attached screenshot so you can see what I mean.

That's quite nice! Quite beyond my editing skills, but nice.

You may need the cabview patch from the DT site for this loco.I havnt used this loco for quite sometime now so cant veryify if this is indeed correct but maybe worth a try.
I decided to lower the cabview a little on the Class37 after reading Jimmyshands post but im afraid im not having much luck.I have done/edited quite a few cabviews of various locos and its usually done via the default loco but i cant seem to find a default for the Class37.All i can see are BR Blue,BR Green,etc,etc..Does this mean i need to alter the cabview for each one or am i missing something?.

Yeah, each one. I just altered all the cabs for all the 37s a few days ago. I got tired of the nose up against the glass feeling in them.

Thanks for the suggestions in this thread. I, too, have been amazed by some of the positions I find myself in when I try to work inside the cab. In one case I end up between the pipework and the boiler backplate! However, I've got a related question. I've just played Ferryhill Fiddle and the inside of the cab of the Standard 4MT tank is very, very dark. I can just about make out some gauges in the gloom but cannot see the regulator, for example, and only know it's there if my mouse pointer happens to cross its position. Is there a setting for the level of light in the cab that can be adjusted in a similar way to the driver's position?

Many of the class 37 reskins have their own Cabview folder so you have to go through each one to check. It's not that big a job because RW Tools remembers where you last looked each time you go to open a new file to edit so you don't have to navigate through the whole directory each time. The reskins only need doing once and they will not be over-written by Steam. The default 37 folders are BR Blue and BR Green, these will be over-written whenever you verify cache or get an auto core update.
Personally, for the class 37 I like the closeness to the windscreen, the distance from the window is about spot on for real life. The height is wrong though, too high. It is of the height for standing not sitting in the cab. For anyone who wants to change the view to something more like sitting, you just need to follow the guidance above and change the 'Y' Value slightly. I think from memory that the 37 'Y' value is at 3.0100 by default, changing it to 3.000 lowers the viewpoint just enough to make it more realistic but without sacrificing the view ahead and the view of the nose.

Hi Hector2
I've tried both the cab patches from DT but neither worked. It seems the drivers and firemans view is stuck looking over the top of the cab.

Aye Jimmy lad, it's about spot on for real life, BUT, for driving it on a PC simulator it's damned near useless......
I hate having to pan down to the floor to operate the horn and to the sides for the throttle and brake levers, it's impossible then to sit up and watch where you're going when shunting and coupling, in expert mode, I gave up using the 37 and 40 for that purpose, which is what you buy the simulator for in the first place......Blinkin' annoying.
Thanks for your suggestion, I'll give it a whirl and see what happens.
Cheerz. Transport Steve.
