It is of the height for standing not sitting in the cab. For anyone who wants to change the view to something more like sitting, you just need to follow the guidance above and change the 'Y' Value slightly. I think from memory that the 37 'Y' value is at 3.0100 by default, changing it to 3.000 lowers the viewpoint just enough to make it more realistic but without sacrificing the view ahead and the view of the nose.

Aye Jimmy lad, it's about spot on for real life, BUT, for driving it on a PC simulator it's damned near useless......
I hate having to pan down to the floor to operate the horn and to the sides for the throttle and brake levers, it's impossible then to sit up and watch where you're going when shunting and coupling, in expert mode, I gave up using the 37 and 40 for that purpose, which is what you buy the simulator for in the first place......Blinkin' annoying.

Thanks for your suggestion, I'll give it a whirl and see what happens.

Cheerz. Transport Steve.
Never thought about it from that point of view mate, I use a Raildriver so I don't need to see the throttle or brake levers or speedo for that matter!! Can't recommend one enough, you can do all your driving by feel and by actually holding the handles leaving you just to admire the view ahead!

Thanks for this bit of info as I'm fed up with window licking on the class 40's and Peaks :D

Yeah, I'm with Steve. I like simulating life as much as possible, and go to great lengths to put my eyes in the right spot inside my FSX planes, but I couldn't stand how I couldn't see anything BUT windshield in the 37. I think the default is 6.5. I changed mine to 6.2, but that puts me (standing, as Jimmy suggests) behind the seat. It may be a bit far back for some, but I can see the gauges and controls and outside at the same time.

And I use the RD too. I just like to control brakes and throttle by reference to the gauges.

But this brings to mind the FOV setting in command line options. I've tried several different values for that, and it doesn't ever seem to change anything. Did TS2012 break that command?

Anyone know why, when you move back the cabview on some locos, you lose mouse control of the throttle etc?

I have now changed all my Class37 Cabviews from the original,"3.15 and 6.5" to "3.13 and 6.4".I also wasnt that keen on having my face so close to the glass and although only small changes, i think they make the view much better(for me anyway :D ).
Does anyone know how i might change the default cabview on the" DT Class40".The view looks a bit to the right rather than straight ahead and i think using the above method would only change the head position rather than the direction its looking or pointing at,so to speak. This is something ive never tackled before so any help would be appreciated.

Here's John's explanation (to me) of the numbers:

If you didnt know already this is what each row does. (Reletive to the engines centre point) (British locos) never tried USA

0.0000 x Left Side of cab moves the camera from side to side
0.0000 y Drivers eye height , up/down
0.0000 z moves the camera backward / /forward

0.0000 x Pan Left /Right
0.0000 y Tilt Up / Down
0.0000 z Dont know !! ! !!!

0.0000 x Right side of the cab moves the camera from side to side
0.0000 y Drivers eye height , up/down
0.0000 z moves the camera backward / /forward

0.0000 x Pan Left /Right
0.0000 y Tilt Up / Down
0.0000 z Dont know !! ! !!!

So, I think the second x variable would give you what you're looking for. I just don't know which way an increase would turn you. Have to try it out.

Just what I was looking for, especially for the class 40, but do the changes to default locos survive the verify integrity of files command?

Guys I'm sorry to have to drag this back to my problem, but can anyone help with the 2p drivers view? DT patches do not work and manually setting the height does not make any difference.

I'm getting desperate now I'm on my third relief fireman the others have all received head injuries from low bridges, plus its very drafty up there and I think I'm getting a head cold :D

Well, actually, your OP invited just the kind of stuff we're talking about. But I'll give the 2P a go and see what it looks like for me. I haven't actually driven it since buying it (got it in the huge recent sale because of the coaches).

Yep, it's a problem. And the cab camera patch doesn't fix it. Neither does editing the cab view, which makes me quite suspicious. I wonder if this loco aliases its cab view to something else? I don't know where to look specifically in the bin file for that. But I took this screenshot, and you and I should email DT about it. I'm sure they'll fix it.

Digital Tractions 2P is aliased to the 7F cab and cab camera. They have their own cab camera blueprint but for whatever reason the locomotive isn't aliased to it. The patch replaces a cab camera the engine doesn't even use. They forgot to patch the engine blueprint to point to their camera.

Strange. That explains why adjusting the values doesn't make any difference.

So, is that the cabview for the 7F? Off to check it.

EDIT: The 7F cabview is correct in sim, but I was probably in the RSC 7F pack loco. I'm not sure how to find a scenario where the default Kuju 7F is used. I'll try RW_Tools.

EDIT2: I found the default 7F, but it's cabview is fine as well. So, I'm stumped. Not sure what is causing this problem except that it must be something to do with the aliasing.

I've written to DT, and shared your info with them, Bill.

If the 7F Cabview is corect, then your DT 2P should be correct.

Let me check myself.

*3 minutes pass*

Yep..

Do this.. I'll try to help you out..

Open RW_Tools, file, Open TS-2012 File

Open DT_2P_steam_loco.bin

In: /DT/DT_2P_Loco/Default/Engine/

Search for: <interiorcamera>

It should look like this below it. If not.. Paste what it says there instead.

Code: Select all

											<Provider d:type="cDeltaString">Kuju</Provider>
											<Product d:type="cDeltaString">RailSimulator</Product>
										</iBlueprintLibrary-cBlueprintSetID>
									</BlueprintSetID>
									<BlueprintID d:type="cDeltaString">RailVehicles\Steam\7F_2-8-0\Default\CabView\7f Cab Camera.xml</BlueprintID>
Mine is working as it should.
