Thanks for those. With the audio higher quality is definitely important. If you do have a higher quality video than the one you uploaded please do share it. Nothing wrong with what you uploaded already but it always best to start with the best quality samples you can get :D

If I can get a few more like that I might be able to try and work some magic!

Still hope someone can add a nose. Fair points about "maybe" not being able to see much of the nose when in the fully seated position but you would be looking along it and there's no getting away from the fact that it is there on the real thing, it's one of the defining features of the locomotive. I'm someone who likes to adjust cabviews to suit my own preference, (a bit like winding the handle on the seat height adjuster!) I'm also over 6 ft tall so I bet if I were sat in the seat I'd be able to see the nose and if I leaned forward or raised my seat then I'd definitely be able to see it.

It's all about angles, in one view you might not be able to see the boiler if you look out the cab window of a steam engine, shift your view slightly and of course you'd see it. If it was missing it would stand out like a beacon in the night. Same applies to the Deltic, not quite as long as a boiler, but there is a hoofing great nose that sticks out in front so it should be visible from the cab at least in certain view positions.

Sorry to keep beating this drum but it's a key factor for me. You can add all the other whistles and bells in the world but if no nose then I still won't be using this loco.

I think it is visible from the cab if you happen to be a bat hanging from the ceiling :-?

No probs. Jimmy lad, you keep beating yer drum, unfortunately I'm only a little fella, so, I have to have a few cushions on the seat to see over the top, but, I agree that when we have cab sway at 95 mph, we ought to be able to see something in front of our noses, even if it's only a token gesture of a nose.....

In that video that someone posted, the nose is visible throughout except for a tiny snippet which appears to be filmed from somewhere behind the driver. Admittedly the video is probably filmed by someone standing but I've been studying some pictures of Deltics and the nose is virtually in line with the window frame with only the smallest of steps.
Unless you are a serious short a4$e then you must be able to see at least a whiff of the bonnet otherwise If you can't see a hint of nose through the window then it must mean you are looking slightly up at the sky, which when projected further would result in having zero viz of the track ahead, absolutely nothing. That can't be right?

I'd need the nose modelled as i'm 6'3, but if you're shorter than that, just raise your monitor or put it on a couple of books

I don't mean this to come across as pedantic or anything and I'm certainly not complaining.
I'd like to note a couple of things from that video if I may:

1. The over the shoulder shot at about 2:00 is just that, at the level of the driver's shoulder, not his eye line.
2. The loco in the video is the DP1, I could be mistaken but I've always thought that the production Deltics had a more square nose. Please see the two photos below, I've only included links because the sites they are on and the pictures are not mine. There's not a huge amount of pictures available with a clear view of the nose, but I think I can see a difference.

The DP1:

Production class 55:

So what? Well, I can't help but wonder if a squarer nose would be a little bit more visible than (IMHO) the more curved prototype?
Of course I could be talking out of my hat.
Plus it's entirely down to those involved if they want to put in the nose or not. I'm just happy people with a ton more talent than me are having a look at improving it.

Best regards and thank you everyone for taking the time to look into this.

Shadders.

P.S.
I'd need the nose modelled as i'm 6'3, but if you're shorter than that, just raise your monitor or put it on a couple of books
BDY26, that comment gave me the best laugh I've had all day. Thank you sir!

Hi

Apologies for the large thread-bump but I thought I'd throw this video in, if folks still feel the need to discuss whether the Deltic has a nose or not.

About 1:25 onwards.

I'll get my coat.

What sort of level of quality do sounds need to have to be used in the modelled loco? I've often used these as background for my OO layout but not sure what the position would be if you wanted to use one of these recordings.

Have downloaded this great looking update for the cl 55. However, when I tried to install it via package manager I got an unhandled exception error. This followed a message pointing out the default cl55 cab views are already in place. Do I have to delete the defaults first before installing the update? Many thanks.

That's not what you see from the driver's seat, the film is from a camera mounted behind the windscreen on the fireman's side.
I'm 5' 9" and cannot see the bonnet from the driver's seat.

I wasn't offering an opinion (heaven forbid!), I posted the link because I found the clip last night and it appeared to show a clearer view of whatever it was showing than the previous one. It also looked to me as though the camera was moved during filming as you can see the windscreen wiper motor(?) in one shot and then not in another. :-?

(P.S. Are you still cross with me about my quality laptop comment?  )

Not a bit, you were quite right to correct me, ( and Darren, ) and looking at the nil response, we might not get to know what's inside a laptop of amazing quality ?

My friend has a desktop of amazing quality. The inside of the case contains, among a whole bunch of electronic bits and pieces, the signatures of the people who created it including some guy who signed as "Steven Jobs."

I loved the SE/30, it was an awesome machine for the time!
