Class 144 Pacer by Alan Jackson

Post by FoggyMorning »

I just wanted to pop a thank you in here for Alan Jackson's class 144 Pacer model that has appeared in the library today

Nice to have another DMU variant available, and freeware is especially appreciated. I'm not familiar with the real unit, but this is very nicely modelled with a very good custom cab view included. Sounds are aliased to Simon Coop's class 142

Indeed thank you Alan for making this available. It is very appropriate for a number of routes, and I'm sure the TPE team will particularly appreciate it as Leeds was always covered in them. I remember riding them on holiday in Skipton in red Metrorail livery, which rather suited them. They always seemed a bit better than the 142s we got in Manchester!

Many a fine trip to Leeds and back on a 141, and anyone who's never rode in one just doesn't know what they missed. :-?

Chris.

P.S. I think you still can catch one on the Wensleydale line. :-?

There are 2 at Weardale but sound to be put into occasional use only after the Weardale deciding not to continue with its "commuter" service using the 141s.

Your 141/142's not only "were awful", they ARE awful because I think we must have got all your horrible old 141's down here in Torquay where they are now the mainstay of all our local services!!

So thank you very much indeed  You will be pleased to learn that First Great Western have recovered the seats in Blue but have failed to add any extra padding . in fact the thought struck me yesterday as I bounced and lurched my way to Newton Abbot in one that they must take the prize for the most uncomfortable form of Public Transport ever!! The bitter cold draught from the leaky doors, the noise, the sickening motion and being crammed in five to a bench can only be equal to the conditions experienced by 3rd Class passengers in the Victorian age!!!! :) Although I have no doubt that the Victorian trains were at least reliable. When you get on a 141 at Torquay it's always touch and go as to whether it's going to make it to Exeter without breaking down!!!! Folk shun and avoid them. There is a collective audible sigh of despair from passengers on the platform when their train rolls in and they see it's a 141!!

I am pretty certain you don't have a Class 141 operating down there, they no longer work on the main line in this country. In fact, FGW have just sent the rest of the Class 142's back north, leaving you with only 8 Class 143's that are not that bad actually.

Yes, I think they may well be 142's I don't know to be honest. Is there any difference between a 142 and 143? Some of our stock seem to have proper seats but are just as rough and unpleasant.

A huge thank you to Alan. Excellent work, it suits the TPR very nicely indeed! Just took one for a spin from York to Leeds via Harrogate. :D
