File validation not working?

Has this stopped working for anyone else? I know many files have changed in my installation but I can't reset them without a total re-installation (which is a pain during the sales!).

Quite interested to read this – to be honest I have not been convinced that ‘verifying the cache’ has done anything for me for some time. In fact until the WCML upgrade I cannot recall ever having felt the need to try it. For reasons still unexplained I only received a partial upgrade of the WCML and numerous attempts at verify all reported back showing nothing missing. I eventually resorted to a full clean install of TS2012 which I believed to be ok – certainly sorted WCML out. However having acquired Richard Armstrong’s excellent sound pack for the class 86 and in particular trying the freightliner scenario it appears that I am missing the green (Freightliner?) class 66 notwithstanding the fact that in other respects the 66 seemed to have downloaded ok on the re-install and shows up in Steam as DLC registered to me. Further cache verifies have all produced the same result – i.e. all files successfully validated. This included following certain other suggestions made here with regard to removal of the *.ncf files from Steamapps and even removal of the entire 66 folder from the RSDL assets folder. So I seriously doubt whether verify is actually working for me and in any event it is a bit of a mystery as to actually what gets checked.
Would be very interesting to know whether any one else believes they have this problem or any suggestions for resolving it.
Happy Christmas to all – the turkey must be nearly done by now!

Thanks for replying; I am seeing similar problems, too.
Total local file deletion and re-installation does it (although it's a royal pain with the sales at the moment, server is too busy etc) although it failed to install the GG1 at all the other day when I decided to buy the megapack to round my collection off.
I'm only doing this to reset a couple of the AP sounds but even if I delete whole chunks of the RW installation, verify cache is not picking it up and that goes for removing all the NCF files, too.
Something's clearly not right somewhere (other games are validating and re-acquiring as they should).
PS - Our turkey's just come out of the oven to rest for an hour or so

I am getting the same problem Peter.
I had to totally remove my class 66 from my install, including the 'NCF.' file (my own fault), but Steam will just not re-download it to my TS2012. I have tried validating the game cache several times, but it always comes back with nothing missing, but clearly there is as my class 66 is absent! I have checked my Steam account, and the piece of rogue DLC is registered to me. I have now contacted Steam support about the issue as verifying the game cache clearly isnt working.
Cheers,
Terrone.

My kuju folder broke, luckily i had a backup, but the cache came up with 'All files found' even though I'd delted the folder to let steam download it.

Wouldn't you need a rest if you'd been in an oven for a few hours too?

Me too - my route inexplicably broke (no crash, an hours work, save, go back in, SBHH before I get off the loading screen, grrrr :bad-words: ) this afternoon, so did the usual clear cache and validation, but was surprised with the speed of the validation, especially when it said the files were ok - just to be sure, I re-installed a couple of AP packs and re-verified, and it got to 14%, then skipped to 100% saying everything was fine.
Will give it a few days, but the odd phases of instability this program has are quite worrying at times!!

Hi There
Not working for me either. Real pain with all the sales going on at the mo.
I keep a directory of all files that would be reset via Steam and would like to check the new AP stuff i have bought.

I'm just beginning to wonder if there is a problem that Steam are having with TS2012 at the moment? I have just tried it again, but same outcome, i still don't have my '66' back! I will wait now for Steam support to get back to me.

I've had this problem for a month or two on my dad's PC and my old PC (Just got a new one, Railworks is still installing so don't know if it will do it on this) I found though that if you delete the file that's corrupt it tends to work though, that and restarting Steam seemed to help. I'm not sure why Railworks does it, but as I say, if you can find out which file is wrong you're ok. My advice is just make sure you keep a backup of everything

Steams' servers are just 'Borked' at the moment due to the stress of the sales and people constantly getting the required achievements / converting coal to games or coupons and then downloading their new purchases. I was going to buy some things today, but most of the time the store was offline due to heavy traffic and the forum wouldn't even connect to the database.
It'll probably be fine again this time next week

Yeah, i was thinking that myself.
Its not a major issue, my TS2012 is working fine, i had the original RS '66' which worked perfectly well, but i wanted dynamic numbering so i decided to get the version on Steam while it had 50% off, but now after paying £4.99 for it i have ended up with neither the original RS version (which i uninstalled), or this later Steam version! (how does that work?! lol).
I know it is a busy time at the moment so i am not going to go at Steam support, all guns blazing, demanding my '66' or my money back, i will just sit tight and wait for a response from them, im sure that it will all come out in the wash!

I've had a couple of DLC's in the last 2 or 3 days and no problems with downloading.
( that's actually 8 downloads as I have 4 PC's running TS 2012. )
I find the best time with the quickest download rate is around 6 am.
Usually with download speeds within the 700+ Kb/sec and the odd blip at over 1 Mb/sec.
Has anyone tried changing server location, it might help?
Chris.

Steam could be in a position to offer a re-fund, they did with me when I failed to get the 1/2 price voucher to work with the 325.
By the time they gave me the first re-fund the voucher was invalid as the time limit had run out.
They then offered a second re-fund but I decided to make the best of a bad job and keep the 325.
Afraid Steam never was the flavour of the month with me, and even more so now.
Chris.

Yes, I have tried the server thing, and it most certainly does help! As I have a new PC I've got to re-install Railworks, which at Christmas time is a bit of a nightmare, I left it running on London for a good couple of hours and kept getting my download paused/suspended and only had a mere 1,500mb downloaded. So having looked at time zones I went for somewhere that was in night as these times apear less busy, so I'm now running near my max download speed 200kbs (We have a not so brilliant download speed where I live, all the main cables are in the town a couple of miles away) on one of the Russian servers. I recomend searching around to everyone who is trying to download something, if you get it right you can save yourself a lot of time
