What loco's have the most realistic physics behavior?

Post by wacampbell »

I've never been in a locomotive and barely even on a train so I am not a good judge of reality. For those who have a little experience, I was curious which of the available RW locomotives seems to be the best match to real physical behaviour in braking, sounds, power etc. Are there any tuning tips to dial in our rolling stock.

The Oovee DMUs, although they suffer a little from the issues with the diesel-hydraulic model. DaveB's 455 is apparently not bad either as far as driving goes, although it doesn't quite model the control system right ( has too many control system notches as standard ). I don't know, I'm one of these people who get a DLC and 3 mins later I have my hands in it sorting something out...
My posts are my opinion, and should be read as such.

The freeware russian one seems to have weight about it.. As does Oovees 57 though I sometimes get the impression the 57 is faking with delays to seem more realistic rather than feeling heavy.

To be fair unless the core has better physics I think its always going to be a problem and its best just to accept it as it is and enjoy..

Class 86 seems fairly good and the top speed is capped so you don't tend to keep accelerating above and beyond...

Agree about the 86.. You also have to drive it with some attention which is good
