AP Wagon Sound Pack Problem

Post by matti1314 »

Hi everyone!

I have a question concerning the Armstrong Powerhouse Wagon Sound Pack. I tried applying it to the Horseshoe Curve and the Donner Pass routes using RW Tools. But still, the Box car X29 and the Caboose from the Horseshoe Curve route don't have the new sounds applied. All other cars have the appropriate sounds but only these two don't have them. I already tried to change the Wagon Freight Sound.bin/Wagon Cement Sound.bin/Wagon Coal Sound.bin files and replaced them with the one from the default wagons which have the sounds applied. I also copied the AP folder to Assets\RSC\HorseshoeCurve\Audio\RailVehicles\Wagons. The Box car X29 (Assets\RSC\HorseshoeCurve\RailVehicles\Freight\BoxCar_X29\Default) also has the string in the file for the AP Old 1 Sound and so does the caboose. But the sounds are not working in-game, all other cars are working. I also replaced the BG_Modern.proxyxml bogies file with the new one from the default wagons with the sounds applied (Assets\RSC\HorseshoeCurve\Audio\RailVehicles\Bogies). I literally copied and replaced everything I could but can't get these two cars working...

Before this problem, the flat cars from the HC route (Assets\RSC\HorseshoeCurve\RailVehicles\Freight\FlatCar\Default) didn't work either with the new sounds but when I copied the AP folder as mentioned above, they got the sounds as well. Now what's strange about this all is that the Box car X29 and the Caboose are in the same folder as the Flat cars (working) and the Hopper H21a car (working) but still don't have the new sounds.

Can anyone help me so that the Box car X29 and the Caboose start working with the new sounds like all others? If something is unclear, please tell me.

Since I can't edit my post, here's a video of a demonstration of what is not working.

Now this is weird. I added the AP sounds to the X29 and Caboose and as you say the sounds don't work. Now I created a train using those wagons on another route and the AP sounds work. The problem seems to be with the Horseshoe Curve route. Why would it reject the AP sounds?

Nothing against the AP pack, but if you want new US rollingstock sounds you really have to try Krellnut's Wagon soundpack from here.

Why it's not working on HSC I don't know, but you might want to check the sounds did actually get inserted in the blueprints properly. Also check who the provider is for the AP sounds, you might have to include them in the scenario.
My posts are my opinion, and should be read as such.

Thank you for your replies.

@Gatso: So you can't the sounds as well, right? Well, seems that I'm not the only one having this problem. Note, that I recorded the video on the TestTraK, not on the Horseshoe Curve.

@Kariban: I really like the sounds, I've seen a video right now of them and they're really convincing! I'll check them if anything fails for the AP Pack. Do you like Krellnut's more than the ones by AP?
Yes, the sounds are inserted correctly, I used RW Tools for this. Because they were using the Wagon Freight Sound, I had to rename "Freight" to "Generic" in order to automatically let RW Tools replace the old sounds with the new ones. What do you mean by to check who the provider is and to include them in the scenario?

I don't see any problem with a mention of an impressive freeware offering, we all know they rarely get the recognition they deserve.

You know what, guys? I checked Krellnut's Sound Pack and was literally blown away! I liked them even better than the ones by AP! Wow, this pack is definitely worth downloading and using! I made a short video with that one:

I contacted AP already, I'm still waiting for an answer...

For US stock I prefer Krellnut's to anything. Tons of bangs/creaking/thumping/other tortured metal, they're great.

I think the provider/product for the AP ones is still Kuju/RailSimulator ( even though the actual sounds live in the AP folder ) - making a new scenario on HSC might not include that location, you'll have to check with the flyout.

Are the Krellnut sounds the same as the China ones? The China ones have the thumping sound of flat wheels which sound exactly like American trains.

As for HSC wagons with AP sounds they all sound correct when I tried them on the Port Road. It makes no difference if the AP provider box is highlighted or not when creating scenarios. I even made sure the relevant section of the wagon's .bin file says Kuju / RailSimulator rather than Kuju / RailSimulatorUS

I believe they are part the same and part 100% new recordings , though the method used to call them is the same and credited as such

You found the mistake! Thank you so much! Only the Caboose and the Box Car X29 had that US, others didn't. I removed it and now they're working! :D Thank you again!

Damn... I was doing a backup and now when I went in-game again, the AP sounds for the Flat Cars from the Horseshoe Curve were gone... Does it have something to do with the BG_Modern.proxyxml file? I didn't change anything but noticed later on that the sounds were gone from the Flat Cars. :(

Sorry for triple post...

Nevermind, everything is working now. I reinstalled everything again and the only thing I had to do is to paste my previously configured *.bin files with the AP sound strings in them into the appropriate folders and also to paste the AP folder containing the five *.bin files for the AP sounds into Assets\RSC\DonnerPass/Horseshoe Curve\Audio\RailVehicles\Wagons.

Edit: The sounds were working on the TestTraK, but as said above, are not working on the Horseshoe Curve. I didn't test it before, so it seems that they're only working on other routes but not on the Horseshoe Curve... Is that fixable somehow?
