Dual Monitors Solved

Post by johnrossetti »

Hi, apologies if this is elsewhere, I did look. I finally found how to get Railworks 3 across 2 screens (Windows XP) without the Matrox thingy. This should work in W7 but I only have RW2 on W7 and RW2 does not have the same settings. I should add I have an ATI 4870 Dual Monitor Card. It may be the same process for other makes but I cant comment.
To enable Railworks to spread itself across 2 screens (like Cinemascope) you need to enable Spanning. This feeds the two screens as if they are one, not to be confused with feeding 2 seperate windows to two seperate screens, this was enabled in the "ATI Catalyst Centre" under "display properties", right click on the RH Screen and select "stretch desktop 1 horizontally onto digital panel", thats that done. Then on the settings of Railworks 3 select DOUBLE your normal screen width and keep the height the same. in my case 1280x1024 went to 2560x1024. Select Full Screen. It does not matter if you have 1x1 or 2x1 selected. (it makes a very slight difference to the F4 display. And thats it. Is there a down side ? YES it will hit your frames rates by how much only you can tell by doing a before and after test. This does NOT enable you to put the picture on one screen and the 2D map on the other, which is what I would love, bit like FSX and a moving map.
