I am stunned. What a fantastic new Freeware route.

The climb up and over the Pennines is superbly done. It really gives you the sensation of height and engineering.

I happen to know the line quite well and the detailing is spot on!

I've just driven a Tractor over the route and made a number of unscheduled stops to have a look about.

Would the railway cottages at Garsdale be there? Yep, just as they should be. And is the best pub in the UK there where you walk under the viaduct to get to it? Yep, though it is shown as a house.
Is the tarraced cottage near the station at Lazonby depicted where we used to live? Yes and excactly how I remember it!!! Joy! Although in those days I don't remember seeing more than two trains a day!! Ah! but there should be Morris Marina outside!
And the river Eden is there at Armathwaite where long ago me and my wife used to go skinny dipping. Happy days!

Superb. Superb. And it's free.

Thanks so much to J Griffiths.

Thanks for the comments, just to show we are here to please have redone the Garsdale Pub, I have sat you and yours outside and put your car in the car park. Will be uploaded with v6 later next year.

I will stop at showing you skinny dipping though!

John, that's an amazingly good likeness!! Ahh! I can almost feel the roaring log fire, smell the steak and kidney pud and taste the Old Perculiar! No need for the car in the car park as we always visit the pub by train though!

Now I can nearly recreate my perfect winter weekend break! Just a couple more pubs for you to include when you have time please: :D

The Fox and Pheasant down by the river at Armathwaite.
The Royal Oak in Appleby

(Highly recommended for all lovers of railways, beautiful scenery and real ales: You need a nice cold, dry winters weekend. Saturday 1) Buy S&C weekend rover ticket from Carlisle. 2) Catch train to Armathwiate. 3) Admire restored station. 4) Walk down to the Fox and have an early lunch & beer. 5) Stroll along the river (allow 3 hours) to Lazonby Station. 6) Admire restored station. 7)Catch train to Garsdale. 8 ) Marvel at the superbly restored station, signal box and semaphores. 9) Walk down under the viaduct to the pub and stay the night there because the beer, food and atmosphere is so good you won't get back up the hill in time to catch the last train. Sunday 1) Have huge cooked breakfast and walk up to the station. No need to rush 2)Again. linger and wonder at the simply gorgeous Garsdale station in all it's glory!! 3)Catch train to Appleby and have Sunday Lunch at the Royal Oak washed down with a few more pints. 4)Wobble back to the station and catch the train back to Carlise knackered but happy!)

Even more recommended is Johns fabulous new route for RW3!!!

Frankly, and as others have already said, absolutely brilliant. Unfortunately I did not know the S & C in the 60’s but did get to know it quite well during the 70’s and 80’s. During that period I spent a lot of time photographing the line including the classic Midland Railway architecture which was still remarkably complete.

After having a few problems sorting out the required stock I have only been able to drive the northbound containers so far but was entranced. In fact the trials and tribulations of achieving sustainable and satisfactory performance from TS2012 became an irrelevance as we plodded north on the Long Drag towards Ribblehead. As I know the geography quite well and with reference to my Quail Track Map I was anticipating what was round the next bend picking off the tunnels and viaducts one by one. Yes, ok there are a few odd glitches in places (one or two 15 mph speed limit problems) but it is totally inappropriate to criticise such a magnificent piece of work.

There should be some good scenario potential on this route both steam and diesel so hopefully all you skilled creators out there will be coming up ‘with the goods’ so to speak.

Whilst sitting on the hillside high above Arten Gill Viaduct waiting to photograph the Thames Clyde express I could not possibly have imagined that 35 years plus later I would be sitting at home drivng the route.

If you have any interest in the S&C or just like the 1960’s traditional railway feel with typical country stations, goods yards and of course semaphore signals then this is a must have. J Griffiths has to be congratulated on a fantastic achievement – this is a real treat, thank you.

I loved it and brought back some happy memory’s of my Dad as it was a route he loved. In 2004 2 weeks before he passed away and with the help of the Fell Rescue Team we took to him back to the Ribblehead Viaduct.

Every station there is a surprise.

Well Done

I can also add only praise for this route and appreciation of the time and effort involved. I also find it fascinating as someone who knows the current route well just how much trackwork there was at even the minor stations. I would be interested to know in terms of the branches sidings etc is this all authentic or have you added any "extra interest" along the way
Did you use any particular maps or trackplans John?
A great piece of work in its own right and a great base for modelling to a different period also.
Superbly well done!!

I haven't downloaded this yet but it definitely looks to be worthwhile.
My first task though will be to "backdate" the track and swap it out for a wooden sleeper variety.

May I take the opportunity first of thanking the author for uploading this. :)

Thanks so much for the route John. You have done so much to make RS/RW/TS2012 come alive, right from the start. It's amazing to see how your route building skills, always good, have advanced. The S&C is undoubtedly the pinnacle of your achievements.

I'm sure your policy of using assets accessible to all, with no payware assets being required, is appreciated by many. And, while it pays no dividend for you,it certainly does for us.

Very well done, indeed.

I've had no problems with previous version but when I try version 6 I get;

---------------------------
Error
---------------------------
ERROR: Not a serialized binary file
FILE: D:\build\CoreRelease\Code\Libs\Foundation\API\core/cFxException.h
LINE:113
---------------------------
OK

No idea what the problem is

The error message you are getting is an all too familiar one with Railworks but is displayed for many different types of problems- always at line 113!
Have you tried checking the scenarios for missing items with RW Tools. Whether you have RW Tools or not I would try renaming the scenarios folder and then try to load the route. If it loads you have a problem with at least one scenario. You can then restore the scenarios folder and remove, but not delete, half of the route's scenarios and try and load the route. If the route loads the error(s) are in one or more of those in storage. If it doesn't load the problem is in one of those still active. By a process of trial and error you should be able to detect which scenario(s) are giving a problem.

But, I now get this exact error when I'm attempting to get into the game and can't even get passed the first splashscreen, so, how do I know which route is causing the problem, or, scenery item???

Cheerz. Transport Steve.

Assuming neither verify cache nor RW Tools delivers the goods I think you'll have to do something similar to what I recommended above. For example, disable half the routes you have (just rename them temporarily) and then restore them and disable the other half if no error is found after the first disabling.

Once you have narrowed the error down disable 50% of the 'faulty' half and so until I hope you get it down to one route.
Then you have to do the same sort of thing with the folders inside that route.

You may, of course, find no routes to be faulty. In that case you are going to have to perform the same sort of exercise with your assets folder.

Before you begin you may consider first of all disabling a route or asset (or other add on) to which you have recently made any changes or installed.
