Altenberg Wildau V2 not readable by RW Tools

Post by Ajay1 »

I have just installed SAD's Altenberg Wildau V2 (newly created for TS2012) over the top of my existing V1 of this route. When I Start Railworks3 it is listed in the Drive by Route/Select a route screen and works fine. However when I open RWTools
it is not listed at all in there, so I am unable to check or edit for missing rollingstock and assetts etc. If I uninstall V2 and the reinstall V1 only again it then appears in RWTools again. Has anyone else installed the new version 2 of this route and had any problems?

Antony.

I've installed and run it, and it works fine (and is gorgeous), but I haven't tried to open it in RW_Tools. I'll check that this evening and reply again.

It's also being talked about here, from this post onwards... http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 5#p1486625

Apparently to do with the route .xml

Have just had a pm from sad27 with regard to A W v2 not being able to be read by RWTools to the effect that when he has finished the update to the payware route he will look into this problem for us.

For some strange reason the RouteProperties.xml in the .rwp file has been compressed with serz.exe.

To fix it, rename RouteProperties.xml to RouteProperties.bin and use Serz.exe to uncompress it.

Im a little lost. I have found the RouteProperties.xml for this route and changed it to read RouteProperties.bin, but how do I go about obtaining the serz.exe prog to uncompress it ? a step by step instruction would be most helpful. I am a novice when it comes to these sort of tasks.

Than you

serz.exe is found in your Railworks folder. C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks

Thanks very much for that. Had to remember how to open command prompts directly in folders, but once I did, easy to do.

Hi Griphos,

I can't remember where I saw this, I believe it was on these fine forums so all credit must go to the original poster.

You can create a shortcut to serz.exe on your desktop. Then for converting .xml to .bin and back again, you need only drag the file onto the desktop icon. The file it creates appears in the same folder as the file you dragged. It tends to be much quicker than opening the command window and typing those long paths.

Hope that helps,

Shad.

You could also right-click and use the Open With... sub-menu to use Serz instead of whatever you have .xml and .bin files open in normally. I would find this easier than a drag/drop onto a desktop icon.

You could also go a step further and change the file type associations that Windows uses, but I would recommend against this because many other programs use XML files and files with .bin extensions.

It sounds like you may not have the "Show file extensions" option enabled in Windows
