Not everybody's got an iPhone!

I'm always amazed at the things that go wrong with different people and Steam related issues.
Am I one of few, or one of many?
Never had a moments problem with Steam, yes, I have Steamguard, no, I don't go on the Steam forums or go anywhere near Facebook.
For most of the time RW3 is played online, ( I only go offline on the odd occasion I want to use RW2 ) the only issue I have since we got TS 2012 is the relationship with RailDriver, and RSC have kindly told me it's not their problem.

One thing i do notice is that their forums use PHP. I have never been a fan of PHP based websites. Would they be better off running Windows based forums... does that offer any better security?

Not everyone has an iPhone, no, but I don't know anyone who doesn't have a convenient way of checking their e-mail. If I didn't have the iPhone, I would just look at the screen of my Mac. Even if I had only one computer, the SteamGuard e-mail would be at most 2 clicks away from the dialogue box requesting that I look at it.

And I agree, the problems experienced by some players are truly remarkable and unusual, to thepoint of being freak occurrences. Some of them I have been completely unable to reproduce, despite installing RW3 on at least 8 separate PCs of widely varying vintage and capability. (Other problems were very easy to reproduce and have been reported accordingly.)

I'll stick to the way I do things, it's more convenient for my other family members who don't have access to my email account, which is the one linked to the steam account that we all use.

Valve implemented SteamGuard for a very good reason, which I have already mentioned previously: your Steam account is potentially more valuable even than your bank account.

Please do not continue to suggest disabling any security features of Steam.

Yes, it is optional. BUT there is a tradeoff: if you disable SteamGuard and then your account is hacked, Valve will be considerably less willing and able to return your account and it's contents to you.

I have read the EULA for Steam several times since this subject was started being discussed and nowhere in there does it state that.

It does say that you are entirely responsible for the security of your account. They don't have to help you at all if they don't want to.

Their notice regarding SteamGuard should be a little clearer. A click-through screen before being able to turn it off with the following words should suffice: "You understand that by turning off SteamGuard, you are taking full responsibility for the security of your account and that you will be required to negotiate privately should control of your account be transferred to another person."

Yes it does say you are entirely responsible for your own security, and that applies whether you use Steamguard or not.

But as for Steamguard no such statement exists so therefore it should not be quoted as if it does.
