In the Steam client settings. You will be sent a code via email, type in the code and then your new password in the spaces for it.

Open Steam; select the top left menu named 'Steam'; Select settings and the screen that opens has a place to change your password.

And I'd wager there are plenty of other "half-intelligent" that don't, either, and, even if they do, I highly doubt they understand most of the clauses contained therein.

It'll be my own fault when I find out I've agreed to sell my future children into slave labour.
I love the EULA agreements. Don't be worried if a courier turns up to collect all your shoes one day.

I pointed out a few mistakes to Blizzard Entertainment where they banned any comunication between characters of opposing factions by any means.... One of the game's features includes a friends list that you can talk to someone else in game while they are playing the opposite faction. 2 days later there was a patch released that replaced the EULA files to say "any third party applications used to directly communicate between factions, (not including in game features, eg Battle.Net), will result in your account being suspended or banned from the World of Warcraft".

The Steam Security Breach!!!

Now this is scarey... It was not a Hacking attempt, They did not even realise that someone had access to the entire system and someting was wrong untill the person started downloading account information. This was because they had logged into the servers for steam using a Administrator Account name and Password. Steam admins thought it was only an infringement on the forums account system, only later did they realised how much information they could have gotten hold of. Luckily all bank details are stored encrypted... But this still means it is only a matter of time... The encryption can be cracked but it may take something silly like 3 days per item. Steam suggests changing of passwords because these are encrypted but most people only use a 6 - 8 character password. Even when told to use a 20+ character password. Your Security question and answer should be changed also as these tend to be simple answers also. This information may have been accessed. I would suggest picking a random question and then not answering it truthfully then entering a string of characters in (noting them down somewhere safe) eg. "theswirlingpoolbythewatersoftherushingpondwherethemonkeysitseatinghisantelope" easy to type and makes no sense but it's a good example of a long password that annoys hackers and pleases administrators.

Credit Card.

I don't use a credit card with steam. I used paypal. Because it takes you out of steam and into a seperate login, on an external website. Where your transaction is verified then a code is generated and sent to steam, you have to authorise every transaction and it is not automatic.

The other feature of my actual credit card, The security checking features. I have a password that I have to type random characters into a set of windows, the characters are in my password that i set up for the credit card. I always thought it was a pain in the rear but it now makes perfect sense, the extra level of security. The only problem is when it asks of the first, twenty seventh and seventy sixth characters of the password... can take a few minutes to count through :P

I don't use a credit card, or, provide bank details and I change my home address and don't give my correct date of birth either. I would hazard a guess that of the 4 million, or, so, Steam customers, they're probably more likely to be after the points from folks who use XBox 360's, or, similar to obtain other items off the Steam Store, such as Football Manager 2012. A pure guess is that half Steam customers are under 16's, and don't have a card, or, bank account, so they've used their parents instead, I wonder if they've told Mummy and Daddy that their details may be compromised, I'd love to be a fly on lots of household walls..... :o

I am 14 and use a debit card with Barclays. Some of the big banks do offer accounts for over 11's.

I just hope my details haven't been grabbed :o

On Saturday, I had a couple of emails from Steam, sending me a code to change my password..

This is an automated message generated by Steam account administration to help you reset your Steam password.

Please enter the following code into the 'Verification Code' field of the 'Forgotten Password' dialog. (Enter the code exactly as written. You can use copy/paste operations to enter the code):

Code: Select all

Please also enter the *answer* to the following question into the 'Secret Answer' field of the same dialog:

[secret question]

IMPORTANT: Please do not reply to this message to attempt to reset your password -- that won't work. You must enter the above information into the Steam application.

The thing is, I didn't ask to reset my password. Has anyone else had this?

I never joined Steam forums, and generally play offline. I just logged in now with no problems, and made a genuine request to change my password, which worked.

If you never requested a password change then delete the email. The safest option would be to then change the password yourself as you have done.
