Has anyone else found this 50 to be a bit of a frame rate zapper? I love it but my rig is only just hanging in there with this one and I'm getting 23 fps max whereas other locos are giving me 30 plus. Still it's worth persevering with as this is a hell of an add on for UK diesel nuts like me. Has really had me yearning for the good old days of loco hauled trains which are sadly gone forever in the UK. Just can't raise the same enthusiasm for units which are just coaches with cabs to me. Really miss those proper locomotives with their earth shattering sounds, distinctive liveries and big red name plates!

Would have loved to have had a few more scenario's with this pack, but am really happy with the purchase. The 50 sounds really good and looks the part to, love opening the window to here the english electric engine in full cry I think I have only seen that feature with the 150/2. Overall I am really happy with the 50 I'd give it 9/10 as there weren't more scenario's with the 50.

Hi, Mike has uploaded a few scenarios today to UKTS for different routes for the class 50 today. For project platform, Port road, WCML north & China clay for export. - some free roams but some standard too.

Re the scenarios, all I can see are the free roam ones, no standards.

Also I've spotted a Save/Load bug. If you resume a saved scenario, the direction switch is parked in "off" although you can take power. However, if you attempt to put the switch in its correct position while moving you get an AWS self test which Q cannot cancel and stops the train. Unlike the 150, the game doesn't load you into a black screen but it looks like something in the scripting needs tweaking to leave the cab correctly set up when you save and return later.

'Has anyone else found this 50 to be a bit of a frame rate zapper?'

Yes - it's pulling around 2-4fps out of Paddington compared to the HST.

And what about those white panels on the engine compartment side? Is it my graphics card or should they really be there?

Lovely model. though. Very well done, sir.

No problems here, although I've turned my shadows down to "low" and also turned off shadow casting headlights for the HSTs, 166s & 47s - the headlights still project, but the exaggerated shadowing that these produce are no longer effecting frame rates. Average 18 ~ 25 Paddington to end of electrification, 30+ after that point. :)

Two in Oxford - Paddington (look near the end of the list)
One in Newcastle to York
One in Port Road (needs the DT MK1 coach pack)

And of course all the Free Roams :)

Download this on a whim as the 50 was my favourite diesel loco when I was a lad back in the 80's. I remember them well at Birmingham New Street and would occasionally badger my Dad to take me to Sandwell and Dudley on an evening at around seven o'clock in the summer as about then a 50 hauled train would come thundering through at full chat. Happy memories!

This model does the 50 proud and I especially love the exhaust effects and the engine response delay. A very nice package. I've only finished the Paddington to Didcot run, which I enjoyed immensely as it was tricky getting out of London - it's a very busy day on the lines in wet and foggy weather, so don't get caught out by the signals ;-)

Best regards,

Jim

Ah but aren't those the original "Standard" scenarios bundled with the product? I can't see anything other than the additional free roams.

Hi Vern, not sure, I will check the numbers in RW tools against package manager to see what they are.

Edit
They are: a free roam for project platform
a free roam and, early start for port road - I was surprised to get this one with the steam download as it includes other payware dependances - 08 & dt coaches - very nice & challenging!
a free roam & a std scenario for Settle & carlisle - keep overshooting signals with this one :)
a free roam for China clay for export

I have literally just reloaded a scenario and my direction control is where I left it; which particular 50 were you driving?

I would have been on that train on many occasions :)
Was an old favourite of mine, the 17:52 Paddington - Wolverhampton. Although it would have been a bit later than 7 o'clock when I'm talking about. (1987-89ish)

Blue, large logo (I think).

Hmm, actually I think I found what you mean; it's ok if you reload without quitting the game, but if you reload from a cold start then it won't reload the ingame reverser ( I'm checking to see if anything else fails to load ).

Having poked a bit more, it is RW's fault, it's not initialising the cab controls to their proper positions. Try saving with the power lever on 0 power, quit, reload - the power lever is somewhere around halfway into it's travel until you tap it, and then it jumps to 0 again. Same with the direction control, tap it and it'll jump to where it was meant to be - but as you're moving it will trigger the emergency stop like it ought to.

The 50 isn't alone in doing this, everything else does it too as far as I know. I'll think about how to fix it.

And having poked around even more; RW isn't initialising the visible controls to the value they're actually set to, which is generally called "a bug". If you want to trick the direction control into resetting, make sure you take some power and try moving the control; as it technically can't move with the power control open, the graphical cab control will just snap into place.

At a bit of a loss how to even work round this atm.
