There's definitely a gradual deployment of power, and a power 'delay' as the handle is cranked up. I'm normally a steam fan but this model really did catch my eye, it performs like a dreamLocoPower wrote:The model looks great, and seems like everyone's raving about the sounds, but how are the physics? Does it have realistic, gradual deployment of power as the revs rise and fall? Appropriate cruising speeds on partial throttle, etc?

Still testing at the moment. On the Paddington - Oxford scenario it is only hauling Load 6 on the flat and accelerates quite fast, so I think a real test is probably to put 12 coaches behind it from Carlisle up to Motherwell.LocoPower wrote:The model looks great, and seems like everyone's raving about the sounds, but how are the physics? I'm also not 100% sure about the sounds, they are certainly better and stronger than the original but IMHO the OpenBVE Class 50 still has a slight edge. Maybe I need to tweak my Realtek audio a bit, not really sure what the optimum settings are for RW.

Re: Class 50 Annoucement
There are one or two tiny niggles, but overall I'm impressed myself. The physics are most definitely above the default standard. It takes a reasonable amount of power to cruise at speed, but it will still accelerate perfectly well when required.
The key to knowledge is not to rely on others to teach you it.
Physics Report
Quick run out of Carlisle, single Class 50 and 12 Mark Ones. Observing the 20 MPH speed limit on departure from Carlisle I opened up the throttle to maximum once the rear of the train cleared the restriction. 95 MPH achieved passing Gretna Junction with a maximum of 96.2 MPH just north of Quintinshil Loops at which point I hit the 1 in 123 rising gradient and speed started to drop. There was a noticeable fall off in the power curve at higher speeds, i.e. not constant acceleration rate.
Seems perfectly fine to me.

Very impressive loco. I just hit train simulation utopia driving the Padd to Didcot scenario. The most immersive and realistic experience I've ever had to date in a train simulator. Yesterday I tweaked all my routes to get more cab bounce/sway and rocking along in that 50 with the sweet music of the English Electric symphony filling my ears was pure heaven! I'm a cab man when using Railworks and the cab on this loco is one of the best yet. The sound effect of engine noise when opening the cab windows is fantastic, the noise changes with BOTH windows, very clever. Well done Mike, you've created a beast!

Re: Class 50 Annoucement
Well just purchased it and what a great addition to the Railworks fleet, a very good job has been done and well worth the price.
Just had a quick go at the Port Road scenario and noticed one small thing which I know is only minor but the rear coach is around the wrong way so the tail lamp is at the wrong end of the coach, easily corrected I know but just thought I would mention it.

Great model and what a departure from the original! Really happy for Mike here. Just goes to show.. Anyone, provided they stick to their craft, learn, improve, and push themselves to do better can make it to the `big times' by getting their product on Steam. Good on ya Mike!
The Class 50 For Rail Simulator.
Hi. Has anyone got this yet? Will purchase if the sound is correct. I did hear that 50015 had been used as the sound, which at the moment sounds really poorly. Im please to say that the one I part own doesn't sound anywhere near quite so sick. I get the impression the nameplates are correct too? Opinions guys?
Take care

Also added this, and I have to say it was a really enjoyable experience as well as a great model. All aspects are very good, but I particularly like the horn and the window sound occlusion. Great work Mike, holds it's own against some excellent competition.
Recommended, especially with the steam discount.

A little off Topic, but stumbled across this today:

As brilliant as Mike's Class 50 is, I doubt it can pull this many Mk3
and our friends across the Pond are always saying that they have the longest trains LOL.

Hmmm, a bit of fun for the 'TestTrak' perhaps?

Re: Class 50 Annoucement
Like certain others I wasn’t necessarily going to bother with this one at present but in view of previous comments couldn’t resist any longer. What can I say – well in a word ‘brilliant’. Lovely looking model and very immersive driving experience once I had worked out that the controller has four positions – as usual should read the instructions first! Sounds are also very impressive and bring back memories of photographing 50’s on the western region when there were proper trains with locomotives and carriages.
To be honest the Paddington to Didcot scenario didn’t particularly excite me (some rather iffy signaling aspects on the exit from Paddington to catch out the unwary and once passed Ealing not much other traffic on the line). Here’s hoping that all you clever guys out there can come up with some entertaining scenarios for this superb loco.
I really cannot see how any Hoover fans could possibly be disappointed with this, thanks and congratulations to all concerned.
