Anybody know what is the matter with my game? I seem to get all these wierd lines that come from certain assets. I am pretty sure it is to do with my graphics card, since I can only play in legacy mode.

Here's a screenie:

Do you have any idea how to fix this? I have tried Verifiying the integrity of game cache but nothing worked.

What's your computer's specs? Windows version? Graphic card?
Have you tried re-installing or updating to current graphics drivers yet?

Also, I know that since the big upgrade to RW3 that some in-cab views on a couple of locos I've seen are a bit messed-up like this.

You could also try playing around with adjusting some of the various graphic settings.
And maybe try a "Clear Cache" from the RailWorks launcher window, Tools & Docs tab.

Hi
Is this on all routes aor just some? I have the same problem with some scenario's on NEC . I think its caused by some reskinned carriages but not sure yet. Try narrowing down when it happens

Specs:
Windows XP Home Edition SP2
Intel Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.93GHz
768mb of RAM
ATI Radeon 9550

My graphics card is quite old now and I don't think ATI make driver updates foe mine. It's not a problem with the cabs as it is the same outside the cab. I have been playing everything on the lowest setting and it's the same and I have cleared my cache in the Toola & Documents tab.

It happens on most routes. From what I have seen, the lines come from the multiple asset layer and the rural wire fence. Hope this narrows some things down. And what graphics card are you using Phill?

There does seem to be a general problem with Shader Model 2.0 cards - which the 9550 and the Geforce FX both are. Please report this to support@railsimulator.com with as much detail as possible.

Hi there...

I've had this happen with myself in the past, and have a strong feeling, from the evidence presented, that it's mainly to do with the number of assets, like rolling stock, etc. present in a scenario, as you approach them. Because I decided to replace my Nvidia 256MB graphics card, with a 1 Gigabyte one, the proplem went away almost immediately, and hasn't re-ocurred since. Some RW scenarios seem to get very cluttered with many assets, these days, and probably ta your graphics card rather severely in the process. Try upgrading your card and see how that improves things. Worth a try.

Regards...

Sent an E-mail to support. I even set it to high priority! fingers crossed they find a solution. :D

Yes I notice it gets worse when there is a lot of assets. Oxford to Paddington is a nightmare! Thats where the screenshot is from by the way.

Oh boy. Looking at your computer's spec, you may seriously need to consider upgrading to a better system.
Right now, from the specs you've given, it's not quite good enough to properly handle RailWorks3/Train-Simulator 2012.

Your overall amount of system RAM is quite low (and Windows itself eats up a fair chunk of that too remember) and doesn't meet RW3 minimum requirements.

Your current graphic's-card is underpowered too. Looking at the specs of your card, it doesn't do Pixel Shader 3.0, and also doesn't have enough onboard memory, overall this card does not meet RW3 minimum requirements.

A Intel Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.93GHz is really an old and low-end computer and underpowered computer for trying to run such a program like RW3... it "might" kinda run it, but, it won't run it well, and honestly only just borderline might barely be able to run RW3 at all.

Windows XP with SP2 is outdated too by today's standards (and being phased out).
------

If you can't afford a whole new computer, then perhaps consider at least upgrading the following things in your current computer:

A better, newer and faster graphics-card, one that supports Pixel Shader 3.0 and I'd suggest with at least 500MB, or better yet, 1GB of onboard memory.
Install a couple more GB of RAM (XP only really supports up to 3GB of RAM properly, so for you I'd suggest to install 2 GB more RAM if keeping the same computer).
Upgrade XP to have SP3.
------

But even with such upgrades, with an older computer like an Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.93GHz, you're still not going to get good performance (and most likely you'd have to put most setting towards "low" to have it run with any kind of playable performance, then things would look kinda bad).

So, if you can afford it, then definitely consider upgrading to a whole newer and better computer system with good hardware specs.
------------

Good luck.

"Certain assets"

Which assets? Two things cause the screen to look like that... Computer on the fritz or something there is no way to really bring up without possibly making someone upset. But the latter will make the screen look like that even if your PC is running fine.

Which assets?

Ahem.

While the OP's machine is indeed quite old and underpowered by current standards, it *is* capable of running Railworks 1 and 2. Therefore, according to RSC's claims, it should be able to run RW3 without TSX.

Since there is a clearly defined problem which is preventing that, reporting the problem to RSC is the right thing to do. They *do* pay attention - witness the bugfix for Athlon-XP CPUs.

A hardware upgrade is still a good idea, but it shouldn't be mandatory.

Ahem back.

This from Steam's store page for Train Simulator 2012, apparently the minimum requirements are:

System Requirements
OS: Windows XP / Vista/ Windows 7
Processor: 2.8 GHz or faster
Memory: 2.0 GB RAM
Graphics: Video 256 MB with Pixel Shader 3.0*
DirectX®: Version 9.0c (Included)
Hard Drive: 6 GB of free space + 3 GB for DLC
Sound: Direct X 9.0c compatible
------------

So, going by that, the OP's computer's specs doesn't quite meet the requirements for RAM, Graphics and only barely for CPU.
Though he might be able to run RW3 on his current computer, as is with his current hardware, lack of RAM, weak graphic's card, outdated CPU, it probably won't run very well at all, or may run but his old and underpowered system is most likely the root cause of the problems he's been experiencing.

But sure, by all means, contact RSC's Official Support and see what they say.
And, I never said it was "mandatory" for him to upgrade anything, but, I only suggested that he should consider it.
Cheers. :)
