The problem with including "more" is that it might well have doubled the time to release. As a route builder myself you have to know where to draw the line with off-shoots and branches, or even sections like yards and depots adjacent to the "main" run which you know will see little use. I like Thomson's "corridor" approach to the project and it still provides a cracking principal route to drive, while allowing the team scope to expand/extend it later.
