Re: PC Woes!
Is there a "driver" available for your monitor? (Really it's just an information file.) That might work around whatever your newer drivers are choking on, resolution-wise.
The GT210 is a very low-end card. If your update attempt coincided with the RW3 release, you might be running into a bug that was introduced with RW3 - one of the new graphics enhancements seems to be permanently switched on. Therefore, even if you run with TSX off, the load on your graphics card is higher than normal and could easily cause worse performance. If that *is* your problem, I would expect it to be fixed fairly soon.

The key to knowledge is not to rely on others to teach you it.
Re: PC Woes!
To be honest, if you tried re-seating the graphic card and re-installed the correct driver, as well as system restore and nothing is working, your other option is a Window's repair or re-load. If you copy all your important files to memory stick/s then re-install using the recovery disc that came with your system, it should put things back to working order.
I can not understand why your not getting the same resolution you were getting before with the same card?. This looks to me like a driver issue of some kind? Have you tried driver roll back option?

Re: PC Woes!
thanks for all the help so far! I'm using a 19" LCD tv screen as a monitor (my flat is tiny, no room to have a separate monitor elsewhere!) It was working well with RW3, I just stupidly decided to update the drivers a few days after it on the recommendation of others to see if i could of got any better results, hence the problems since. I think I might have to give up very soon because I can't afford to get it repaired, and got no option of doing a reload with no CDs or form of backup (got about 200GB's worth of music projects over the last two years, nightmare!) As for driver roll back, I've done that already and still have the same issue, I can only get the resolution I use on the 260.99 driver which is what I was using in the first place, just means I can't use any updated drivers.
I personally think it's done for
I must have the touch of death because my macbook has just died tonight too with a logic board failure that's unrepairable too. if there was a smily for a stressed out person wanting to explode, that'd be me right now
I personally think it's done for

Re: PC Woes!
What is the native resolution of the monitor? Am I right in thinking you cant get the res on it or is it in certain games? You are not using something which creates a profile for your games are you? As these will go back to default when you update the nvidia drivers.

Re: PC Woes!
1440x900 is the native resolution, I can't get the res on it at all, not just with games! And I was using profiles some time ago but turned them off when i realised the game was adding AA over the profile which was adding AA too, if that makes sense? (i'm so not technically minded) the problem now is running the PC in general, I can't run any gaming till I find what's sucking the ram up
Re: PC Woes!
I'm going to take a wild guess your monitors refresh rate is set wrong.

Did you realy check it that often before----is it possible that what you're seeing and reporting has been happening for some time?y2flexy wrote:...........Looking into it more I realised that ever since i done this driver update that i'm losing just over 1gb of ram permanently on the system processes when looking at the task manager.........(

Re: PC Woes!
yeah I often run an activity monitor when running the computer for recording, it'd averagely be taking up just under 200mb during usual running

Re: PC Woes!
Hi there flexy,
I totally understand your woes as I am having almost exactly the same problems and again has only come as a result when I decided to update my graphics card driver. (Nvidia GeForce 7500 LE).
I now can not get railworks to start (from the main screen) always get the message: 'Setting are not usable', which ever screen res I choose, even the res that my screen is set (by default) at - 1600x900.
I am beginning to think this is a big bug, not with Railworks but the latest Nvidia Driver. Rolling back the driver also has no effect.
I'm beginning to think this is the end of RW for me, for the time being, until I get a new graphics card, which I have a feeling is the only thing that will cure this problem.
Has anyone else had problems with the latest Nvidia Driver (280.26)
Kind Regards
Pete

Re: PC Woes!
How?...if you stick with nVidia and their unified drivers, a new card will use the same drivers, leaving you exactly where you are now. Have you tried playing about with the Anti-Aliasing slider?---even turning the feature off to see if that's usable.petestuart wrote:........I am beginning to think this is a big bug, not with Railworks but the latest Nvidia Driver. ........................I'm beginning to think this is the end of RW for me, for the time being, until I get a new graphics card, which I have a feeling is the only thing that will cure this problem........

Re: PC Woes!
Thats true, about the graphics card. Forgot about that! Doh!
As for the other settings, I've played about with them all and the same thing keeps on happening...

Re: PC Woes!
I recently upgraded my graphic card from a Geforce 405 to a Geforce GTX560. After installing the new card, I installed the drivers from the enclosed disc and all worked ok. Using Driver Genius Pro, I searched and updated the latest driver with no problems at all. My native settings are 1920x1080 and this runs fine with RW3. There are settings that will come back as not usable. I have had Nvidia cards for years and never had anything like this problem?. I will check my driver version later and let you know but if you have put the original driver back, why is the problem still occurring?
I read recently that Nvidia has a download that cleans out all old drivers, maybe check this out on their website. Maybe its worth contacting Nvidia support line and get some advise from them as to what you can do about this.

Good morning
I know this won't help the unfortunate member with the problem
But I am a firm believer in leaving well alone .....if your computer is working ok then leave it alone
Kind regards Stephen

Out of interest, what Window's version are you running? I have just checked for the latest driver for my card and there is a driver for Window's 7 64bit and a different driver for Windows 7 32bit, Vista and XP.

Re: PC Woes!
I dont think you have an operating system problem with the driver they normally wont allow you to install them even if this is the case. As someone previously mentioned the latest drivers from nvidia have lots of other things added into to them that older versions didnt neccessarily have and in all truth this is probably why your system resources are lower. As I mentioned in previous posts using a driver cleaner and reseating the card and running with default settings then installing known drivers has always worked for me. (I install new drivers bi monthly) As for driver finders I steer well clear of them and only install from trusted sites eg nvidia.com. BTW nvidia forum is good for asking on they have a lot of input there.Good luck!
