Finished With Railworks

Hi,

I've decided to go back to MSTS it's far simpler than Railworks,I installled S&C v5 yesterday and so far I can't get it to work. I down loaded all the free stock for it.

Only to find it is missing stock, I'm getting missing Maroon LMS Coaches and BR MK1 Maroon Coaches, which are in the free stock pack,I have just bought the Railworks MK 1 stock to see if it was them that were needed, On trying it again I got get the same message.another activity crashed with broken consist.

I'm not going to keep buying items on hit miss basis just to try and get something to work,at least in MSTS if you have some thing missing it's straight forward to swap some thing, you can either use activity editor, convoi free,or con builder, just click on the route then activity then the train and the add the replacement consist items.

At the time I thought it would be a good idea to move over to Railworks with all the hype about 2012, but so far for me it's a disaster,so far I have spent about £60.00 on it,and can only get the Isle of White and the Included routes to work all ,the other routes which I have downloaded are comming up with various error messages.

At least with MSTS you can spend less than £5.00 and get a comunity CD with route activities and stock included,I find Railworks to complicated and expensive, unfortunatly I haven't got a bottomless pocket to try hit and miss methods.

Please excuse any spelling and grammer mistakes I have had a stroke which means I have memory problems

Michael you can do this with RW Tools for Railworks, small donation required after 21 uses. Everyone except RSC will tell you it's a must have utility.

Hi, sorry to hear you feel this way, but maybe ask on the forums about which assets you need before buying them, pot luck is a bit hit and miss.

RSC Just don't comment on RW tools (or any other unofficial tools) or suggest anyone does or does not use them.
What folks do with the tool is upto them but we also take no responsibility for what users do with it either.
I always go back a qoute a user wrote a few years ago on these forums:

'I changed a bunch of files and now RailWorks does not work!'
Often it is not the tool that is at error, it is what users can do with the tool without knowing the impact.

Users change files at their own risk.

regards

Derek.

Michael,
I did reply to your post regarding swapping stock:
http://forums.uktrainsim.com/viewtopic. ... 1&t=118996
For less than the price of a pint of beer most items of stock can be swapped to allow you to run scenarios on a lot of routes.
( and I wouldn't take much notice of what RSC say, they're only covering their own backs. )
Why not try the 21 free goes you get with RW Tools before you give up?
If thing do go wrong you still have the option to delete local files and do a complete re-install from "Steam"

Chris.

P.S. I've changed hundreds of items of stock with RW Tools and wouldn't be without it. :P

Hi,

I think half my problem is the stroke I had which makes things like Mikes tools to complicated for me,I managed to find the Scenerio, also manged to get it to show the missing stock, but I cannot find any way to get the stock to replace the missing items.

Only my useless BT BB, not the first time it's thrown a wobbly.
A re-start of the hub's fixed it. ( till the next time )

My Dad has suffered a stroke and i know some of the things that you can have problems with, like brain fog as my dad calls it,

Is there not someone who has a bit of time and the skills with RW Tools that could maybe help Michael via email.

Hi Michael, have you got the latest versions of the freeware packs? They were updated yesterday & are now TS2012 tested.

Hi,

Yes it can seem daunting using RW tools but my advice is to take it slowly and keep some cheat sheets as a quide for yourself. Also it may be useful to create a copy known as a clone of the scenario before changing anything so you can experiment safely with out braking the original.

Initially I would also suggest it would be best to learn swapping content on a scenario that you already know that runs ok.

So clone/copy a simpler default scenario either with Railworks or RW tools and give it a new name. I usually just add my initials to the front of the original name so I can keep track but what you call it is up to you.

Then open the copy in RW tools and have a play about with it learning how it works. Just take your time, take a few notes and try swapping just one or two items and save the results.

If there is anything you don't understand don't hesitate to ask here for suggestions or help.

I too had some problems with broken consists in S&C v5. However, I simply opened the editor and clicked on the loco and went back in to drive and all was well.

Maybe this might work for you..
