GTX 460, antiasiling problem

Post by 2slow4u »

I'm trying everything, but I'm unable to obtain a *decent* image quality/ performance ratio...
If i leave TS2012 to manage antialiasing, setting "controlled by the application" in the nvidia control panel and "high" in the "basic setting" of TS2012 launcher, i get a really poor result, with marked jaggies.
If i try to increase basic setting to higher values, i can't see significant improvements unless going up a lot, but at that point, performance fall abruptly to insane level!
Tweaking antialiasing in nvidia control panel, seems almost useless...i can't see appreciable improvements.
There is definitely something that does not work properly, I personally have exhausted my resources and do not know what else to do...

I would suggest :

1. Leave the Nvidia control panel settings at default. If necessary reinstall the drivers and use the option to dump any previously saved settings.
2. Email RS.Com with your issue and wait for a fix.
3. Continue to play with the options in Railworks whilst waiting for a response to 2.

And only change 1 thing at a time. I have been in and out of Railworks all day apart from during the F1 to try to get a handle on the differences between my laptop and the desktop.
Kindest regards

I've got a gtx 460 aswell, the anti alias doesn't work with it, only on RW2, its something to do with the new rendering method in TS2012 which basically defuncts AA edge smoothing, though the 460s are somewhat prone for AA not working with game titles and its down to a quirk with the drivers + hardware and what the game is rendering in which is somewhat annoying.

Forcing from driver doesn't do anything for it either, it won't toggle on for TS2012, in other games it makes parts of models transparent if forced on, not much of a workaround unfortunately. SSAA 2x1 makes the jaggedness go down abit but otherwise pretty much out of luck.

Edit: if you run a google search on gtx 460 anti alias not working it brings up quite a few results, its unfortunately something which is difficult to sort out.

Personally, I have NEVER had any problems with the antialising, it works fine on all my games.
The problem occurs only with RailWorks 3 (with RailWorks 2 was fine).
I really hope that RS.com will solve this BIG problem, TS 2012 must to be an UPgrade, not a DOWNgrade!

I've got a GTX260, which ran RW2 very nicely using the recommended settings posted on here in the Nvidia control panel. The only way I can get close in TS12 is with the antialias slider all the way to the right. Anything less and it's like playing MSTS on my first laptop

Surprisingly, it runs as well with full AA and medium shadows as it does with AA on about 3rd notch and shadows on high. I can live happily with medium shadows. I also don't think 15fps feels as bad as the figure suggests.

If the 4gb tweak doesn't get me workable performance, it's new chip and card time :o

Lets hope we get this addressed, the difference in RW1 when I tweaked the Nvidia settings for the first time was astonishing.

Please see my post in the main TS2012 thread.

The concensus is that because of the way the game engine works, hardware AA is not possible, at least until RSC upgrade the engine to DX10. However we await an official statement from them about anti-aliasing.

I share the disappointment over TS2012. I cannot go above the Lowest graphic setting if I want decent framerates. And I don't have AA turned on AT ALL. I will probably have to leave off TSX if I want decent graphics and performance. The graphics achievable with it turned on at Lowest are little better than Trainz.

Best wishes,

I have older brother of GTX 460 in my computer - Asus 8800 GTX (768 MB, overclocked and with special watercooling) and it's pretty good. All newest games are running almost all faders on top position and no any problems at all. But in RW3 I can't set antialiasing feature anywhere else than most left position without heavy loss in framerate. Seems like RW (this time version 3) was released in unfinished state once again.
