Crawling AI
I am quite pleased with the upgrade, my 3 year old pc seems happy with the new game engine although I have to knock off the shadows to get the best performance, something a new graphics card and extra RAM I hope would address the problem. I have noticed when I use heads out or passenger views that I get occasional wild 1-2 second flashes of other scenery as if I have passed through some kind of window.
The worst thing I am getting at the moment when creating a new scenario is the crawling AI trains, a bug I remember from the early days of RailSimulator and it is happening alot, I read somewhere that someone else noticed this, is it widespread I wonder?

Re: Crawling AI
Yeah, I have had it, primarily messing up test scenarios I had created on my own route. I've also had some very weird behaviour with signals, basically AI trains stopping at clear signals and bringing the whole thing to a grinding halt. Am going to copy my route, delete the scenarios and create some new ones, see if it still does it.

My attempts at making a scenario with just ai have been curtailed by the crawling bug, i'm afraid it's back but it should soon get sorted by the devs.

Re: Crawling AI
These sound like old issues from the days of Rail Simulator & RailWorks that have somehow crept back in. I've got to admit though, I've yet to encounter any of them.

Yes Squatch I also have had ai trains stopping at clear signals especially in yards with more than one ai train made up.Squatch wrote:Yeah, I have had it, primarily messing up test scenarios I had created on my own route. Creeping AI here too, I'm afraid

Hmmm, that doesn't sound too promising, will mail support with it if it still happens in the "new" scenariowright1949 wrote:Yes Squatch I also have had ai trains stopping at clear signals especially in yards with more than one ai train made up.Squatch wrote:Yeah, I have had it, primarily messing up test scenarios I had created on my own route. Re: Crawling AI
I can confirm it does happen in newly-created scenarios, in fact I haven't got a single new scenario to work properly since the update. Even the default scenarios aren't working, i.e lots of active consists (headlights are on) stopped at clear signals - Chasing the Yellows is a good example). Currently restricted to the simple "drive from A to B without seeing more than two AI trains" type scenarios from the RS days...Squatch wrote:Hmmm, that doesn't sound too promising, will mail support with it if it still happens in the "new" scenario

Re: Crawling AI
My previously created A1 scenarios for RW2 now crawl and stutter in TS2012. Hope its just a bug.
Re: Crawling AI
I mailed RSC this morning - managed to actually see an AI train hit an invisible wall and start crawling, then all the signals packed up! Re-started TS2012, scenario worked fine! Very odd

Re: Crawling AI
The crawling AI was supposed to have been fixed with the 7.1 update. It's mostly fixed, but can still be achieved if you do certain things within the scenario editor, but these are only occurring if you try to do something stupid with the AI. Whilst the AI is still far from perfect in TS2012 it's far better then it was upon first release.

Re: Crawling AI
I believe the bug that was fixed with crawling AI with v7.1 was that when you entered "play" mode directly from the editor, the vast majority of AI would immediately enter "crawl mode".
As Andy says, it can still occur from time to time, in my experience this is usually where the paths of two trains cross or when two trains are calculated to be in the same place based on start time, line speed and service class

Re: Crawling AI
I've found that using a timetabled scenario rather than a standard one doesn't seem to have this issue. You don't have to set things to be timetabled - if you set the the player train it is just the same as a standard scenario in terms of experience.

Re: Crawling AI
I created a new test scenario using 421cig..(player train ).....and the duchess (ai )......on the portsmouth direct line.......
The player train is to pick up passengers at woking.........the ai is just north of woking and heading for the portal..(about 1 mile away )...
Ai Crawls ..........player train is ok ........
I then set the same scenario and settings/time /weather etc etc in RW2 ..(i have a backup of just the railworks folder ).......and the Ai functions as instructed, (NO CRAWLING )
So that tells me that the Ai crawling problem in RW3 has not been entirely eradicated , unless someone can shed some light on what,if anything i am doing wrong .
Thanks
Brian
