Total rant on railsim 2012
Rail simulator is becoming a very expensive game to play, with all due respects RSC and steam with with the average route costing £20+ and train costing £10 upward we have now been “treated with railsim 2012” that unless you do not have a PC with the test specs RSC were trying, your basically boned. I had WCMLN which run like a charm , now a total write off, and with other routes. I’m now looking at the forums and it seems that a PC upgrade is the only answer . (£500+) to be honest it’s not worth it. RANT OVER

Lovely rant, but completely wrong, especially the above bit. By all means be unhappy, but don't post bull.dave138 wrote: that unless you do not have a PC with the test specs RSC were trying, your basically boned.

Re: Total rant on railsim 2012
I've yet to upgrade partly due to reading how other members with similar PC specs have been doing since the upgrade.
Did you make a back up of RW2 before upgrading? If you did then just return to RW2 until you feel the justification for shelling out the money for a new PC.
If you didn't then I'm afraid to say that you and everyone else was advised to beforehand.

Really? It is expensive. RW3 dosen't run as well in legacy mode as it was promised it would. It dosen't run properly at all in TS2012 mode for a lot of us. Upgrades are already being thrown around this forum as the silver bullet. Seems to me that Dave138 got a lot completely right.Darpor wrote: Lovely rant, but completely wrong...
RSDerek advised users to back up our own work, not clone the entire game. And there's that assumption that people are just going to go and upgrade their systems. I think its bang out of order to try and suggest that users are at fault, either for not backing up to the Yangtse or for not having the right hardware, when we were promised by RSC that things would run just as well in legacy mode.gavo01 wrote: Did you make a back up of RW2 before upgrading? Did you actually read the bit I had quoted? I'll do it again.1S811985 wrote: Really? It is expensive. RW3 dosen't run as well in legacy mode as it was promised it would. Not completely right, completely wrong. It's incorrect.dave138 wrote: that unless you do not have a PC with the test specs RSC were trying, your basically boned.

Speaking only for myself, the game is running better in so-called legacy mode than RW2 did1S811985 wrote:Really? It is expensive. RW3 dosen't run as well in legacy mode as it was promised it would. Re: Total rant on railsim 2012
Just want to agree with Darren on this one, I've got TS2012 working quite acceptably (about as well as RW2 did) on a 7 yr old laptop. No 2012 mode but then I think that would be asking a bit much for something that old.

Re: Total rant on railsim 2012
Darren and a couple of others beat me to the posting button.
This thread appears to be going nowhere fast. It is clear there are issues for some and RS.Com need the full details to their support email address. Grumbling about things here will not change anything.
Nobody is "boned" or been had-over (to use another phrase I have seen hurled around). The update was well publicised as was the need to get offline in Steam if you really wanted to avoid it (OK there were issues in doing that if you got the new client but those are totally out of the control of RS.Com). I suspect RS.Com had a busy day on Friday with emails and now it is the weekend.
They need to be given a little time to find out the cause of some of the issues. Yes, I know that is frustrating for all concerned but they are a commercial operation and these things take time.
FWIW I am still waiting on a response from EA Games about a different game with a problem 2 months after I submitted the fault log and in my day job I have a ticket open at our main supplier for over a month and we pay a 6 figure licence and support fee every year .....
Now, if you haven't got anything constructive to say then think about whether you need to say it.

My Machine is by no means new , yet im getting fps between 20 and 30 on this route with all settings on high inc shadows ,Bloom and Depth of field ( i have screenshots if you need proof )
Granted it drops to 14 fps in places but on the whole its very good ,
All i want now is the Class 86 to be converted to show rain on the Windscreen and i will be very happy

Re: Total rant on railsim 2012
Hi everyone,
As a latecomer to Railworks (decided to give it a try when it was offered in the Steam sale last Christmas for £4.50) I must say I wasn't impressed with it at the time and it hasn't had much use. I didn't find it particulary immersive and I just could't get on with the scenario editor. This may be heresy on this forum but I find the MSTS activity editor much more logical and intuitive.
Anyway now to TS2012, having downloaded the upgrade I wasn't too surprised to find that my 2007 hardware couldn't manage TSX. I am however quite pleased with the improvements when running in so called legacy mode, I have been able to increase some detail settings and still get reasonable frame rates but most importantly the general appearance of the sim is improved, particulary the lighting, and as a bonus I get the cab sway effect as well. Overall it has made the driving experience in Railworks a little more enjoyable. Now I just have to have another go at getting to grips with the editor and who knows I might just become a convert.
On the issue of having to upgrade hardware, as a long time user of MSTS I eventually got to the point where to get the best out of that sim I had to upgrade and my current PC was custom built with that in mind, now at 4 years old it is hopelessly out of date, I'm afraid thats just a fact of life with computers, a year is a very long time when it comes to technological advancement.
As a final footnote I would comment that it would be helpful if games producers were more realistic in defining the system specs required for their products, most seem to seriously under estimate the minimum specs needed to run at a reasonable level.
Regards,
Andy

Re: Total rant on railsim 2012
Seems a lot of problems are caused by some not updating their graphics drivers? (can't speak for ATI) but my system is kak compared to most of the people having issues but lets be clear the game is optimised for Nvidia gpu/chipsets. I have had the latest drivers since release and they work fine in TS2012 along with my underated quad core phenom (2.2ghz) 8800gtx, oooold m2n sli by asus and 4 gig of 800mhz ram, rubbish brand. I am running TS2012 with the AA slider on 5 but can run it on 7 with slow downs all settings on high except water, passengers and detail set on 8, no bloom or depth, procedural. Certainly I can qualify my system/me are not "boned"!

Just to add my 4year old PC could not run RW2 that great but can run RW3 with TSX on full settings minus shadows. So it is strange to see that people with alot more powerful & modern PC than me are having problems with the game. I have a I7-920 2.6ghz/ 8GB ram/ 9800gt 1GB graphic card.

Re: Total rant on railsim 2012
I'd think its the acres of RAM and the 1gig graphics card that does it.

Yep -upgrade of ATI drivers does the trick as well.smarty2 wrote:Seems a lot of problems are caused by some not updating their graphics drivers? (can't speak for ATI)
My computer is 5/6 years old - single core etc. etc. but with a decent graphics card. I can run WCML as well as before in legacy mode and overall, now I have worked out my own graphics settings, the visuals are A1. TSX doesn't particularly work for me (wouldn't expect it to) but no worse than I was before.
I did, however, back up my entire UK RW install - all 75 Gig of it, just in case.....
Original poster should give it another go - might need some fiddling, but if he could run RW2, then there appears to be a good chance he should be able to run RW3 (accepting there are some still with problems
