P.S have TSX selected.
Somebody will no doubt ask you to elaborate on what type of system you have, and what settings you are on. (Presumably default medium)

So I will ask first. :D

Now I've got a minimum setting to start from, I'm beginning to appreciate just how much smoother and more immersive the TSX engine is. And that's with most of the TSX settings set to the lowest possible. People with super computers must be loving it!

Struggling on the losest settings on my lower end laptop, will fire up the higher powered comp on the weekend to see if there is any difference, which hopefully there should be :D
Very promising from what I have seen so far RSC keep up the good work! :D

I am also a big FSX user and I still get the odd crash even these days. I am not home for several days to update to Railworks 3 but I am expecting some real teething problems as a matter of course. Meanwhile, to ensure that I stick at it, I have from my remote location, bought the Horseshoe :-) This is in total support of a team trying to further improve a great product. If I am running smoothly by Christmas then I am happy. I already read loads of advice and fixes on this forum. Will weigh in with my experience next Wednesday.
Intel Core i7 2600K 3.40GHz @ 4.60GHz,
Nvidia GeForce GTX 580 3072MB
Motherboard: Intel Z68 (Socket 1155), 8MB DDR3 RAM. On-board Sound
Windows 7 64
I Mean, that should do it?

Hope this helps.

Thanks Steve,

While reading the pages between 76 and 83 of Train Simulator 2012 (Part 2), I tried this solution.
It helped but today, I found a better configuration of the game and discover that the shader level of my graphic card was at the lowest 1480 mhz.
I moved it to 1860 mhz. It helped a lot too.

I am testing this with the new Horseshoe Curve route... Beautiful route.
A must to discover the new Train Simulator 2012 aspects.

Hi All,
I am well impressed with the new graphics/shadows but an old problem has re-surfaced.
I have played around with settings and (steam) locos move quite smoothly.
What I find is that the sounds keep stuttering/cutting out and 'chuffs' are cut short.
Also smoke from the chimney jumps about and has frequent gaps.
I don't have a mega system but could anyone advise if the sound card could be the cause of the audio problems or should I look elsewhere.
I have spent money getting something that worked fairly well on RW2.

Windows XP 32-bit
AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual
Core Processor 3800+ 2.01GHz
4G Ram
ATI HD5450 GDDR3 1G
Creative Sound Blaster XiFi Xtreme audio

Thanks

Re: Train Simulator 2012 (Partthe time 3)

Initial results are disappointing - even with the basic settings set at 'LOW' and the game options at high detail, the max frame rate I get is 14 fps in my Dublin-Cork route. With all graphic options at max in RW2, I never had a fps problem. There is too much stuttering at that level of fps and RailWorks time no longer corresponds with real time (60 RW seconds = 75 realtime seconds). If I leave the 2012 game engine technology unticked,(i.e RW2 settings), it goes back up to 25-30 in densely populated areas and 40 + in less densely populated areas and RW time corresponds with real time. I have a fairly up-to-date computer (Intel Icore 7, Nvidia GeForce330 and Windows 7 OS). I have adjusted the nvidia control panel settings to application controlled, but could not see that it made any difference from the RW settings I had with RW2.

I have noticed other problems - some loft assets seem to have disappeared - for example, Jeff Douglas's Palisade fences have disappeared. When I checked the provider box it was correctly ticked but in World Editor if I try to place any of his fences, I can only see the red markers at each end. (This has happened even with the 2012 game engine unticked). The view from the cab of my Irish Rail re-skin of the Class166 shows a kalidescope of colours instead of the normal view. Presumably this is due to the re-working of the default 166 so I will have to look into this. I hope seerz works with the new GePcDx file for the default which I notice is much larger than the original. Overall I find the colours far too bright with the result that all of the rolling stock, buildings and bridges I have made are also too bright.

It looks like a lot of work is going to have to be re-done to adjust textures to the new simulator.

I will wait a few more days before making a final judgement and see if the tweaks and settings that will gradually be added to the FAQ will improve performance.

I do have RW2 backed up so if worse comes to worst, I can re-install it in a new folder.

Just ouf of interest. Have any of you other chaps downloaded Horse Shoe Pass?

I found i could crank up the detail on my mid range system and it still ran pretty ok. Is this becuase its all designed on the new game engine rather than the RW2 engine?

Horseshoe pass is very nice area to drive on. Recommend it looks very nice.

Cheers.

Interesting theory
For disclosure, I am affiliated with a third party developer however, I do not know anything about any future releases unless I'm working on them and even then, I'd be breaking years worth of built up trust to say anything about it ;-)
