My summary of thoughts on RW3. Easily the worst optimized game I've ever played since FSX. Tis ashame. It is like a Ford Escort with a Porsche body kit towing an invisible boat.

Downloading horse shoe pass now, then see what the performance is like.

Hi guys.
My system could in no way be called high end.

Gigabyte GA 73PVM-S2H motherboard
Intel Dual Core E5200 @3.34GHz cpu
NVIDIA GeForce GT430 graphics
4 Gig ram
Window XP professional
Screen resolution = 1280 x 1024

I have the 2012 game engine ticked and everything maxed to 10 in the options, the only thing I have turned off is procedural flora, as I think it looks silly. I have just run Portsmouth Direct and it was as near as perfect as I hoped it would be. I was getting no lower than 19fps and no juddering at all; it was pure joy.

Can I just say...wow! :o

I patiently went home today and at work I did not even think about RW3 and didn't care if I got home, but I did and I eventually loaded up RW3 (you won't believe I actually did all that  OK, I was lying!)

I just had to take a spin on the Test Track in the hitachi, very smooth and I could almost picture the magazine press, BBC etc filming me roll in, but no cameras to be seen :( suppose the BBC thought it was good news so had a no show

I nearly went careering into the headshunt at the exit as I didn't really pay much attention to the pop ups, anyone playing this read the pop ups or you'll nearly end up in the buffers!!, just as well the BBC didn't show up!!
Had a great time flying round at 150mph, superb muffled sounds no fault there! It is evident the track isn't for 150, it's very rigorous on tilt but fun anyway, surely I am not the only one who 'tilted' with the train?? :o

Also had a great time on the Rush Hour turn, love the bumps over the pointwork too! Tried that Autumn Leaves one too, absolutely stunning! Nice to see the 166 no longer sounds like a transit van and actually has doors at a proper speed rather than trying to chop late runners in half, very VERY good work, and the track sounds too! It shows that RSC do listen to suggestions and have made some right old effort that surprised me more than I was expecting!!

I haven't fiddled around with the Hitachi yet, don't know how this bi-power works, nor have I found any other secret buttons yet but then I haven't read the Manual (what is a manual? :P)!

I am having issues with shadows from trees and poles at the moment, they are flickering but I haven't tried the suggestions yet, I think there is something to do if I have an nVidia card.
I am averaging 20-25FPS over my previous 50-90FPS, massive drop just needs some tweaking to crank it up a bit.

Also, I noticed the rest of the unit fall behind when I got to Cholesy on Autumn Leaves. Anyone who got to Reading before actually noticing should be sacked!!!
The units are DOO, so you should be looking behind you at stations :P

I can't play the WCML North anymore when I have the TSX engine turned on (almost lowest settings possible). I just get an error message which I can't read, because I can only see the window, not the text in it. :o
Other routes seem to work quite fine, but I have noticed a drop in frame rates (even on low settings).

My specs are: GTS250, 4 GB RAM, Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bits, AMD Athlon X2 4000+. I guess my processor is the 'weakest link', but to be honest I had expected an improvement in performance rather than a worsening (because it was said that RW3 would be less CPU demanding).

One thing I am having no luck with, and something which for me was near enough eradicated in RW2. 3 seperate scenarios I have made and tried now, using methods no different to RW2 yet in every one there are several crawlers.

In game FPS is only a guesstimate at best,it's not a true reading,it's always advised to run a 3rd party FPS app like frapps.

Being a "Non Techie" would it be better to run offline and therefore be able to switch off my anti virus thus stopping some of the juddering? I already shut down as much as I can before playing.

On the topic of the "Easter Egg" Hitachi, nice to look at, but (and no offence meant, RSC), it's just a Pendo in a frock ;p

Granted, Ben's 390 is a lovely thing anyway, but I find it amusing the amount of commentary the Hitachi unit is generating (not here, necessarily) compared to some of the more important stuff.

Still, if it shuts up some of the jingoistic voices on Failbook bemoaning that TS2012 is "too American" then that's a bonus as far as I'm concerned...

To be fair though Rik, there is nothing to work from other than a shell at the moment. As time progresses, the Woodcock video revealed that as Hitachi develop the plans, RSC will then receive and update accordingly. Potentially its a good project as long as it isn't forgotten.
