I am getting a message displayed constantly in the top left hand corner of my screen since upgrading to TS2012 which says "PHYSX > CPU".
I have a physx graphics card (NVIDIA GTX 460) so I thought it would be better to use physx with hardware acceleration on the graphics card - when I try to reinstall physx as advised by the auto email from RW from the .exe in my TS2012 folder it just says that the driver version I have already installed is newer and wont proceed. TS works OK but like many I'm getting low framerates at times. Does anyone have any idea how to force hardware physx acceleration and is their any way to get rid of the message if not?

Thanks
Ben
See if you Nvidia control option under 3D settings "show physX visual" is on, if so turn it off...
Hope this helps you.

Cheers Mick.

Kind regards James.

Thanks - that worked with the message

I agree with the above statement. It is common sense IMHO.
Kind regards james.

The rain looks to be very good, as does the new graphics engine. Very impressed, adds a lot more depth to the game. However, my frame rate has suffered on my laptop - Have yet to try it on my desktop which is considerably more powerful.

One point, the press releases mention that the rain effects were added to all the default locos that came with the game originally, but none of the default steam engines have the rain effects. Why were these missed? Did they forget rain affects steam engine windows too? :P

Also - In the Class 47 cab, the train and loco brake levers cannot be moved with the mouse. Will test in more detail when I get on the desktop and can hopefully run at greater than 15 FPS :P.

I too am very impressed by the upgrade, after ticking the TSX box everything shows up/functions as expected, fps only around 10 though.

Ho hum.

My "normal" field is in the Flight Sim world and for some reason I expected the Train community to be somewhat different.

But here we are, less than 24 hours after release and we've got folks giving up on 2012, complaining bitterly about RSC etc etc.

I cannot recall one major release of software that has proceeded beyond a couple of months without a patch or an update or whatever. It is impossible for any developer to test their product on every possible system set-up. So it's not quite ringing your bells at the moment, then send feedback to the developer on what your problems are.

If they do not receive the feedback, they cannot address the issues you are having.

One thing I have noticed is that many of the "problem" posts seem to be from users with high end multiple core machines. The same thing happened a few years back with the release of Flight Sim X. Loads of guys went out and upgraded to dual core etc prior to it's release, only to find that the software (in FSX) wasn't yet available to access the dual core.

bigvern wrote: Turning to the editors. What on earth is the point of adding superelevation if none of the track rules support it? A new track rule should have been bundled or is it a case of waiting for Horseshoe Curve and using the track rule from that?
None of the default track rules feature superelevation, but it can be incorporated into your own trackrules easily enough in the blueprint editor

I must state here and now that if RSC cannot come up with some serious optimisation PDQ, then they need to seriously look at introducing a facility for users to roll back and lock their install to the last "good" RW2 version.
Isn't that what the disable/enable TSX Game Engine button does?

One guy on facebook says " I intend taking matters further with either a solicitor/press or both".

:o

I've sent a mail to support about the poor performance, and the reply was suggested for me something like: "turn down antialiasing read the faq (i did it before) because there is no problem with the game". So it's very likely that rsc guys say "optimization? For what? They will buy new pc-s and problem solved". But i still hope im just painting the devil on the wall :)

As a solicitor, I'd have to charge him for telling him he had no complaint whatsoever. :o

I am 250 miles from my very backed up PC and hoping the graphics settings become clearer by Sunday afternoon.

I'm sure the lovely modley people are thinking this, but given the explosion of posting in the last 24 it would be useful to extract the useful tips from this thread somewhere.

Ps if anyone could confirm if Kev's Ivatt 2MT functions correctly in RW3 I'd be the most relieved routebuilder on earth.

Hi

I tried to upgrade, but it took ages to upgrade, it read something like 10 hours! My internet connection is a tad slow today (might be weekend usage). I decided to cancel until later. Later, I tried again, but it did not respond. Everytime I log in Steam, it stops responding. I think Steam is very slow today, it is not going anywhere, so I guess I will just have to leave it and wait until the other day, and I am not very happy. I was looking forward to it.
