OK - that's a photo of a Class 50. But what does the new model look like?

Will there be an upgrade path for existing owners? (e.g. a Steam code or update file)

I believe Mike did originally say he would try to work something out. However, now it's being published through RSC/Steam, I doubt whether that'll be the case. Speculation, of course.

Mike already replied to this on meshtools facebook page and said there won't be due to many limitations. What limitations these are probably cannot be discussed as they probably have something to do with the agreement with selling it via RS.com.

Looks like I will be sticking with the original model then!

Indeed. Not liking this culture of charging huge prices for updates. Not many developers do it, but it's a slippery slope.

The least Mike could have done in this case was publish the 50 himself, and then commit future products to RSC

No. The least Mike could have done is not bother to do anything.
This is a complete new model - not an update. We have no right to expect any rebate, let alone demand one.
I don't know if I will buy it or stick to the old model. I do know it will almost certainly be worth the money.

Well I will just put out there that the new 50 is completely rebuilt model wise, sound wise and feature wise so its practically a new product and not a update compared to the old one. Plus its more coverage for Meshtools to have it on steam and far easier for many people to get it. He wouldn't have been able to give out keys, the same happened with just trains 60 and bristol route, people who bought it before didn't automatically get steam keys distributed to them either.

So to me its personally fine and you are not being forced to buy the new one either, its there as a option for new buyers and the convience of others, I'm sure others are going to buy the new version when its out of steam regardless of ones own reservations.

Others have already put you right on a number of details. You only have to read the first post in this thread for it to be clear that this is a complete rebuild and not an update to an existing model. Unless I have missed the announcement of a price (which is possible) then I would also caution you about stating a "huge price will be charged". Given that one man's huge price is another man's bargain it is hardly a safe statement to make and if you don't know what price it is being sold at (which I believe you don't) then I am not sure what information you are using to base your statement on.

Thanks

This project what started out to be rather simple upgrade has turned into something a bit special. With lots of new features and advanced sounds. Hopefully this will raise the quality bar for future add-ons we will do.
Started off life as an upgrade as Mike said but rightly so has turned into something brand new :) I do think it MIGHT be a little more expensive than if he sold it off his own back as RSC / the developer have to pay insertion fees to steam don't they?

Otherwise not sure why so much negativity over it, your are not being forced to pay for it, you can buy it or you can stick with the old model.

I'm sure Steam take a good chunk of the selling price, but on the other hand this is offset by larger exposure and more sales by being on Steam, so it may not necessarily make it more expensive than it otherwise would have been.

Looks good by the way.

There MIGHT be an issue with regards to scenarios though, if the new model uses a different Assets subfolder than the old one.

I don't see how. As this is being presented as a new model it shouldn't affect anything that uses the original
