Re: Train Simulator 2012 (Part 2)
As anybody tried lowering the resolution? I had to run GTA IV on 800x600 on a 1680x1050 LCD monitor to get control responsive performance (essential), and it scaled correctly and looked ok. I'll be trying it shortly.
The value of your investments may go up as well as down.

Re: Train Simulator 2012 (Part 2)
I wasn't talking about fullscreen, according to the chart you should run 1280x720 not fullscreen, I've got a monitor which can support up to 1680x1050 but if I want to window mode it I can't go above 1024x768, which is contray to the chart they are talking about, the launcher just throws a "unstable settings" error in my face when I try to window mode anything higher, which is somewhat silly.theokus wrote:You know the launcher has 2 options (places) for full screen (or not).crumplezone wrote:Railworks graphics Q&A team recommended setting chart, I don't quite agree with it, and I also can't see to window mode anything above 1027x798, but there you have it from RS.com:
Re: Train Simulator 2012 (Part 2)
Ok lets see..... I have finally got it to run smooth with no jitters but, to have got there i had to ....turn tsx 2012 engine off / set graphics to 800x600 yuk!!!/ put it on the lowest!!
icon and there you have it, quality of loco look/ sound is there but, the graphics and rain /snow has no effect .The people walk at normal speed, where as before, were impressions of the six million dollar man
Graphics, as i have altered every
setting to get the best i can, is like train sim 2001 but slightly better. So lost a lot of what railworks 3 has to offer
I need to get a higher spec game laptop but for now what i have is exceptable
Regards Mark.

Re: Train Simulator 2012 (Part 2)
Just running the Autumn leaves scenario for the ox pad route in the new 166, try it it is superb!
I am running it in 1600x900 bilinear texture filtering anti aliasing on the third position on the slider and multi core selected and the performance is acceptable 20/24 fps minimum stutter. I t is great to hear the sound improvements. Just try the scenario, I think it is a default one? Brill, thanks RSC.
I have pretty much everything on high except passengers which set to low and procedural flora is off I even have the bloom thingy on

Funnily enough, the amazing rain effects do not seem to work with the default blue Class 37?
At first I thought it was because I turned off shadows, however the rain works with the Class 166 even without shadows

Re: Train Simulator 2012 (Part 2)
Anybody else struggling to see the colour aspect of the signals at dusk /night?
I'm running 2012 game engine on. All settings off or lowest apart from water set to medium. Detail level - dependant on the route but in this case (Bristol to Exeter) level 9

For disclosure, I am affiliated with a third party developer however, I do not know anything about any future releases unless I'm working on them and even then, I'd be breaking years worth of built up trust to say anything about it
Re: Train Simulator 2012 (Part 2)
I did try that, with better performance as a result. However the window is wayyyy too small to be driving trains in sadly.paulz6 wrote:As anybody tried lowering the resolution? Re: Train Simulator 2012 (Part 2)
Currently the UKTS FAQ team are compiling information on various systems, and their responsiveness to RW3. When that is released, we should have a little more detail on what is actually needed.

I was getting a fair bit of stutter with the shadows but I have all other settings (in game) on high with shadows off and it's working just as good as RW2 was!

Yes having trouble here. Installed my signals and they appear to work perfectly on Oxford to Paddington, not so good on other routes - I'm investigating this but I suspect it might be down to the weather pattern. Do you also get the terrain and scenery in shade in the distance?pjt1974 wrote:Anybody else struggling to see the colour aspect of the signals at dusk /night?

Re: Train Simulator 2012 (Part 2)
I am able to run with shadows when everything is on medium, but had a try of no shadows and everything else completely maxed out and I get a noticeable improvement even on RW2 framerates.Esurient wrote:I was getting a fair bit of stutter with the shadows but I have all other settings (in game) on high with shadows off and it's working just as good as RW2 was!
If people are struggling, it is the best workable solution for now. Yes, you are trading off the looks of the shadows, which in some places and light are incredible, but even with them off you can still have things like the rain etc. Definetely not the end of the world for anyone teetering on the edge of stutter/standstill.

Re: Train Simulator 2012 (Part 2)
If there's one piece of advice I can give, which has worked for me a treat. Turn shadows to their lowest setting or completely off. All other settings are on Medium and it runs respectably.
Re: Train Simulator 2012 (Part 2)
Thanks for posting this Mick, sadly it made no difference to frame rates on my PC.007MJB007 wrote:Ok peeps, 8 Easy steps to stop 100% cpu useage...
Found a workaround for the issue about " multi-core " function. As some users have reported when this is ticked your cpu usage sits at 100% on 2 or more cores.
I've just found a possible way around this:-
1st " Tick the multi-core function " and start TS2012.
2nd When the menu screen appers leave it open and return to your desktop.
3rd Open task manager on the " Performance page " and you will see that your CPU useage has hit 100% on 2-6 of your cores. ( No of cores depends on your system)
4th Now open to the Processes page and at the top you should see " RailworksProc2.exe *32 ".
5th Near the bottom of this page you will see a button that says " Show processes from all users ", click on this! and the page will refresh showing you all the programs currently running.
6th Now, RIGHT CLICK on " RailworksProc2.exe *32 " and you will see another menu pop up. LEFT CLICK on " set affinity... ".
7th Ok nearly there, all your cores should already have blue ticks in the boxes! Just un-tick 1 box that " RailworksProc2.exe *32 " is using and hit OK. check " task manager " again,
Your cpu usage should now have dropped from 100% to a normal level over all your cores.
8th Ok last step... RIGHT CLICK on " RailworksProc2.exe *32 " and you will see another menu pop up. LEFT CLICK on " set affinity... " again and now select <All Processors> and hit OK.
It works Fine for me and i'm now getting >200fps on my setup and the cpu temps have dropped too.
Hope this helps and makes sense to you all and remember THIS ONLY WORKS FOR USERS WITH MULTI-CORE SYSTEMS..
P.S Dont blame me for anything that you do to your own system, its up to you!!!![]()
Cheers Mick.
Oh and dont forget to enable the " use more that 2gb address " memory issue...
But it did stop the cores in use being stuck at 100%, and I'm happy it worked for you
I'm not going to moan though as there's people here that can't even run it. At least I can do that.
Good luck everyone,
Shad.

Yes, the terrain and scenery are in the shade apart from within a 50 metre(or so) radius of the view point. I just thought it was becuase it was getting dark naturally
