Re: NEC - Out August 25th
Another quick review,
I originally was planning to hold this purchase until a sale, but itchy pockets got the better of me!
First impressions where good as I started the 'Lucky' scenario. The cab does look at bit basic, but the train looks great externally.
I have rode this line on the very short section between Newark Airport and Newark Penn, so was interested to see how it had been recreated.
Not terribly impressed as the Newark Airport station was essentially the building and nothing else, not even a 'Newark Airport' sign, and no site of the Airport rail link.
I like my scenarios, and was not too overjoyed to find only 4, but banking on the Acela DLC to include a load. I generally don't bother downloading user scenarios, as you are usually required to have countless other assets and DLC.
So overall, its ok, but as repeated before, lacks a certain polish.
On an other note, i just tried Railworks out with my new TrackIR that i purchased for flight simming. Excellent, and would recommend one any day, adds another level of immersion.

Unfortunately, the AEM-7 interior looks rather unfinished with not visible detail, especially the speedometer is barely readable. There is additional, not working guage on the right side of the speedo.
I love the sounds and driving is fun.
I attached a photo of actual cab.

That would be Item #11 in the cab illustration in the document AEM-7.pdf, namely Speed Control Dial and it is rotatable.adam3544 wrote:...

The photo adam3544 attached illustrates perfectly how awful and indistinct the cab signal indicators, in RW2, are.

Re: NEC - Out August 25th
Biggest letdown for me is, "Raildriver" doesn't work with the AEM7.
Re: NEC - Out August 25th
I'd say that this cab (driver's desk) is far from the standard of the latest creations. I hope for Acella will have more accurate and realistic one. What a pity.johny wrote:That would be Item #11 in the cab illustration in the document AEM-7.pdf, namely Speed Control Dial and it is rotatable.adam3544 wrote:...

Re: NEC - Out August 25th
The throttle is 'notched' like the Class 86 so that will not work, more displeasing is that the Raildriver Brake Lever does not control the Train Brake however, if my testing was correct then the Cruise Control Dial does work. I have to say I am quite impressed overall by the add on, but I think I have Gamers eyes and not Train Buff eyes. I was pleased by the amount of traffic on the scenario 'The Keystone' I ran only to be disappointed that there was an AI Crash half way through so I could not complete the scenario. More testing required by RS I think.
I was thoroughly pleased that they supplied better manuals this time too. The class 67 add on manual (before the update) was quite lacking in detail and for someone that knows nothing about trains I find that to be quite an oversight from RS. Reading about the trains is just as important to me as finding out how to drive them and what the instruments are in the cab, even if they are not functional, I want to see that info in the manual.

i rarely knock anything railworks does but the lighting here really spoils it for me, the people on the platform look like they've been licking plutonium and the track just looks so out of place
hoping trainsim 2012 changes this...

If you want a fix for the Keystone scenario; Go into the Scenario Editor, Select Train 19 - Freight at Edison and change its final destination to Metuchen Northbound Slow from the North Bound Portal currently assigned to it.

Re: NEC - Out August 25th
the main thin stopping me from buying this is the fear that not much scenarios might be created for this. I wonder what the North Americans or NA rail enthusiasts on here think of my fear? Do you think that there would be a good number of scenarios created? How much payware would be required within reason(aside from understandably the Acela and the Genesis)?

Re: NEC - Out August 25th
Well I will certainly be making scenarios and I can see me using the G-Trax Double Stacks if they fit under the tunnels. If not then just standard freight cars from G-Trax. I won't be going for accurate representation of the route as I know nothing about it but I will be going for busy and fun.msey0002 wrote:the main thin stopping me from buying this is the fear that not much scenarios might be created for this. Re: NEC - Out August 25th
AFAIK double stacks are not used on the NEC due to clearance issues.
(Container trains are still run there, but either with containers on flatcars, or with the usual doublestack wellcars, but with only one container).
