Enabling AWS Warning Sound in External Views
Posted: Sun Aug 07, 2011 2:17 pm
First of all, I apologise for starting another thread that is similar to some others, but what I'd like to achieve here is a workable solution that people can implement if they want to, rather than reopen the debate on what could / should be done by RSC.
My personal interest is in enabling AWS warning sounds in external views for AWS fitted steam locos as, at present, they are essentially undrivable unless you use the F4 HUD. However, I don't want to limit the thread as, if some people would like AWS sounds in all views for any particular loco, that is their perogative. So, what I'd like to do here is, if people have sucessfully modified (please see the caveat at the end of the thread) a loco in this way, please post the details in this thread and I will collect the details for each loco and list them in this first post to make it easy for people to find.
Now, here's the embarassing bit - I wish I could start this thread with a working example, but so far I've failed. I've been trying to modify the RSC Tornado in this respect and have followed what I believe is the correct procedure but without success, so the best I can do is to give what I believe is the procedure and can ammend that as I (we) learn more:
Hopefully, one day we may get the option in RailWorks itself to make this sort of customisation, but in the mean time if we can collate the information to make changes ourselves, everybody will be happy (and those that don't want to, don't have to of course
)!

WARNING: Editing files in this way is not supported by RSC or any other vendor. Please backup any files you edit first and if you run into trouble, please post here and we will try to help, but don't contact either RSC or the creator of the loco you are trying to edit - its not their responsibility and I don't want to upset them by creating support issues!
If you don't feel comfortable editing files in this way, DON'T!
Please don't attach or upload modified .proxybin files unless you have specific permission from the author, they are potentially proprietary and remain the property of the author and so must not be distributed without permission

I've been trying to modify the RSC Tornado in this respect and have followed what I believe is the correct procedure but without success, so the best I can do is to give what I believe is the procedure and can ammend that as I (we) learn more:
- Locate the audio .proxybin file for the loco in question (for the Tornado I believe this is ...\Assets\RSC\TornadoPack01\Audio\RailVehicles\Steam\Tornado\Cab\Tornado Cab.proxybin )
- Open this file for editing in RW_Tools (although you can convert to .xml manually, I recommend using RW_Tools as it automatically creates a backup of the original file for you)
- Locate the AWSWarnCount entry (search for this string by pressing F2 in RW_Tools)
- A little way above this entry will be the line <PlayState d:type="cDeltaString">INSIDE</PlayState>, edit this line, changing INSIDE to BOTH
- Save the file (Ctrl+S in RW_Tools)
- Start the RailWorks launcher, select the Tools & Docs tab and press the Clear Cache button (I think this step is superfluous, but it never hurts)
Hopefully, one day we may get the option in RailWorks itself to make this sort of customisation, but in the mean time if we can collate the information to make changes ourselves, everybody will be happy (and those that don't want to, don't have to of course
