Re: New PC - Would this work?
It doesn't mention if it does?
I don't know what the difference it makes between 32 and 64 bit, but I have read and heard that Flight Sim apparently?
Might go ahead with the tower unit now.
Monitor = got one here so don't need one
Keyboard = got one here only a year old
Mouse = Got a new one last week so that will do
OS = in discussion of that. It's cheap s there is no OS
James.

Graphics card is internal by the looms of it but as I said I would get one.theokus wrote:Graphics card is??
No monitor included.
No keyboard nor a mouse.

Don't know if MS rules have changed, but going back to XP, MS wouldn't re-activate an OEM XP disc on a different machine unless you were a Microsoft Certified Engineer ( systems builder ).
I was told by MS that shops are breaking the rules selling OEM discs to non certified customers, but many do and seem to get away with it.

Re: New PC - Would this work?
The E5800 you linked to definitely supports 64 bit. Not sure how much difference it would really make to RW, but if you were installing Windows 7 anyway, and you can find 64 bit drivers for any hardware you have, you may as well go for the 64 bit version as you will then get access to the full 4MB.tubemad wrote:It doesn't mention if it does?

4GB, not MB. Railworks - indeed Windows - won't run on 4MB!
The key to knowledge is not to rely on others to teach you it.

Re: New PC - Would this work?
Another supplier to try is Ginger6 http://www.ginger6.com/ I have used this company to buy 3 PC's and they are a very good company. After sales are good too as I did have a busted Graphics card on one PC which they replaced within 5 days.
I would strongly recommend getting a Retail version of Windows 7 no matter what new PC you buy. Two reasons; 1, it comes with 64 and 32 bit versions of the software. 2, You can transfer the licence to future PC's without worry.

Then I can chuck this with the package:
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prod ... T4301.html
No point in using my current card, it's an ancient 6xxx series, AGP port with 256mb of ram

You have 8 bit, 16 bit, 32 bit and 64 bit.
Think about roads now...
8 = a small road
64 = ?
You got it
64 bit processes more data.
And please forget that internal video card....
======================================================
about OS > OEM.
No problem at all here
Normally, only a PC-builder can use a OEM OS
Ok... I build my own pc. So I am a pc-builder too he.
I did try a WIN7 OEM on different pc's > no problemo.

Re: New PC - Would this work?
**UPDATE**
Hello! Speaking from my new PC here
Still trying to get the hang of Windows 7 but I will ajust to it over time
I got a barebones from Novatech, got the Novatech GeForce 430 to go with it and also a Pioneer DVD drive and a 320GB SATA hard drive.
I think I have installed the card but don't I need to disable the internal one at least? I can't find the internal video but I found the internal sound and switched it off (using my soundblaster from my now old PC)
Runs OK on MSTS London South Coast, 30FPS out of Viccy with full distance, all detail etc, and 50FPS round Battersea, going good so now installing RW2. Means I will probably have to dig out all my old installations but I have found my RailSim downloads like Isle of Wight, I think I installed that to RW2 and worked fine.
Will let you know how I get on with that!
Thank you everyone for the help, suggestions etc, will be using Novatech more often. Good online support chat system too!
It has been appreciated, lets hope the Padd-Oxford doesn't melt this PC down!
Cheers,
James.

Re: New PC - Would this work?
The option will be in the BIOS somewhere, but is the machine already using the GF430?; depending on the hardware used just adding a seperate card could automatically disable the on-board graphics.... what motherboard/CPU combination did you settle for?tubemad wrote:I think I have installed the card but don't I need to disable the internal one at least? Re: New PC - Would this work?
went for the E6700 Dual core
The GFX card was bought on the recommended suggestion list so it came separately.

Re: New PC - Would this work?
Thats the chipset, not the actual motherboard but I'm pretty certain that adding a seperate GPU disables the on-board graphics.tubemad wrote:Intel G41
