4gig Patch

Post by albert007 »

I recently had to reinstall RW, i was getting reasoabley good FPS, after reinstall i tried
WCML duchess south FPS were down to 14 where before i was getting 19/20 for the first
mile out of Glasgow.
I remembered the 4gig patch and that it had been implemented in RW but thought i would give it a
try, i ran the same scenario again twice and each time FPS were back up to 19/20.
Just a thought anybody with the required ram should give it a try you have nothing to lose and
more FPS to gain.
I hope it works for others like it did for me.
You can get it here http://www.ntcore.com/4gb_patch.php
To install double click 4gig patch, when the window opens direct to RailWorks.Proc2
highlight and click open, job done.

Good luck John

Correct.

I would advise people to avoid making any changes to core files unless they really know what they are doing and have at least one backup available before proceeding.

I would also suggest that anybody suggesting making any modifications to game files should insert some kind of similar warning/disclaimer to mine in their post and emphasise it in bold. There are many people on this forum who are not very savvy when it comes to file manipulation or modification, so this may be necessary at times to make sure that helpful suggestions don't cause more harm than good. I'm happy for people to copy and paste my warning as above if that would make it much easier than writing their own.

Transadalade you are right i should have warned others about changing their RW files and for that i
apologise to anyone who has used the patch and got errors.
I had read that the patch had been included in a previous RW update.
As my RW was not running as it was before i had to reinstall i gave it a try and now it runs
better FPS and a lot less stuttering.
I thought it might help others who were haveing problems, in the event of it not working
i would imagine as RW made a backup of my RailWorks.Proc2 if you delete it and rename
RailWorks.Proc2.bak to its original state the system will revert to how it was before
using the patch.

If i am out of order with my post will a moderator please delete this topic.

You're not out of order ar all John, knowledge and ideas are there to be shared--I think Transadalade was merely stating what many of the 'old hands' do as a matter of course without thinking, and rather than rebuking you for omitting this point he was making sure that any 'newish' user who came across the 'tip' didn't just apply it without thinking.
When running the patch a backup copy of the patched file is created, so as you point out simply deleting the new .exe and renaming the .back takes your system to a pre-patch condition.

Out of curiosity I tried it-----didn't make a blind bit of difference, but thats not to say it won't work for others!

Will a moderator please delete this topic the reason being after trying RW all day
Wednesday and only getting 14 fps i installed the 4gig patch and fps went up to
19/20 average.
Today i tried an old backup RailWorksProc2 and got 19/20 average.
I then deleted the proc and renamed the original from the new installation and fired
up RW and fps were now up to 19/20, it seems my RW setup was ok and just acting up.

I hope you will delete this post before anyone makes a mess of their RW installation.

Hi guys
Another thing worth mention is the 4gig patch automatically leaves a backup of the original exe file. Just in case you wish going back

No need to feel like an idiot, computers ARE quirky, and what works on one system completely falls over on another, even though in theory it shouldn't. (smarty has to be doubly quirky, he has a system that benefits from something that kills 80% of the systems it's been tried on!)
