WCML update
Does anyone know what is in the WCML update? and when is it due
Re: WCML update
Nobody knows when or what unfortunately, there are bigger things for RSC at the moment.

Re: WCML update
How long is a piece of string?... Exactly
The updated "Update" (i.e there was one supposed to be due Christmas 2010 that was fixes, but never arrived..) is supposed to have removal of some objects that KeithMRoss (the route created) felt could go missing to increase performance in certain areas of the route and also ones that wouldn't have too much of a visual impact.
There is also extensions to certain areas of the route, with some new stations and bits n bobs. There was info in one of the screenshot threads a while back, but cannot remember which one as there has been many.

Re: WCML update
Keith also stated that some track has been edited and markers changed, so many existing scenarios may not work in the updated version. If this is the case, I hope that RS.com hold off on it until after the TS2012 launch and fit all the new features including canted track to the updated version.

Re: WCML update
Surely this would be down to Keith? RSC are only the publisher of the route after all. I don't envy the task of replacing the track along the route, there are quite a lot of twisty bitstransadelaide wrote: I hope that RS.com hold off on it until after the TS2012 launch and fit all the new features including canted track to the updated version.

I don't know when, but hopefully the update makes it more like E-G.

Re: WCML update
I think there was a note a while back suggesting that the WCML-N update would be delayed until after the RW3 update. Putting in superelevation, station lighting and a full shadow bake would be an excellent reason for that.
The key to knowledge is not to rely on others to teach you it.

Re: WCML update
I kind of disagree with you on that. I wouldn't want the WCML to become a cab-only route, like the one you mentioned and the GARL. One of the things I love about the WCML is the widespread geographical area, and this should not be sacrificed in order to achieve higher FPS. Reducing the amount of assets in outlying areas is a good course of action though.Drogba11CFC wrote:I don't know when, but hopefully the update makes it more like E-G.

Re: WCML update
Keith stated pretty categorically that the Thomson way of building routes is not his way of doing it, so I think there's no chance of the update to WCML making it more like E-G, however I expect there to be a substantial thinning out of the asset count in more heavily populated areas
He also said that the update had been sent to RSC, who have un-officially (ie Derek posted as much on the forums) said that it's waiting for a window to test/fix scenarios included with the route and class 86 DLC and send to Steam
My speculation is that the fixes applied are much greater in scope than originally envisaged by RSC (ie extended trackwork and scenery as well as actual "fixes"), hence the delay in getting it to us and lack of a release schedule so far

Re: WCML update
RS.com have said that they will be publishing a schedule of DLC updates (which will make the DLC at least compatible with RW3). Since WCML-N is one of those DLC, we should then at least know roughly when AN update will be available. Whether that update would include any or all of Keith's rebuild / update will remain an open question until RS.com deign to provide an answer to that question.
Personally, I'm waiting to see that schedule before I start to applaud RS.com's whole update process. I'm hoping that this new level of communication that has started with the run-up to the release of RW3 means they will now be far more communicative about their updates and fixes rather than just new DLC.
What they have indicated will come in RW3 and its future updates looks and sounds magnificent, but only time will tell whether or not it's enough to impress me,

Re: WCML update
I see that Keith Ross has posted recently (see comments) to say that both the upgrade to WCML and the updated Port Road should be released shortly after the big upgrade to Railworks.

Cant wait. Just hope my existing scenarios will still work on WCML and that the new modern era Port Road dosen't replace the existing one.

PS While my admiration for Mr Ross's route-building skills knows no bounds I cant honestly say the same for his taste in music!

I'd rather spend the extra $$$ to upgrade my system and have a nice 'future proof' route.

Re: WCML update
Hi all
Don't forget that apart from the WCML update/rework and the Port Road rework there's a third route from Dumfries back to WCML that had video's here some months back so when they start comming we should be well stock with new places to explore

Inspired choice, I think, given the particular film that that track tends to be associated with1S811985 wrote:PS While my admiration for Mr Ross's route-building skills knows no bounds I cant honestly say the same for his taste in music!
I am assuming the further delay - the original update was with RSC months ago, wasn't it? was to RW3-ize everything. Should be absolutely fantastic, it's already the flagship route IMO. Now if only there was a brand new Ox-Padd...
My posts are my opinion, and should be read as such.

Re: WCML update
I think the Dumfries extension is part of the Port Road rework. I'm pretty sure Keith modernised the Port Road and kept on going towards Gretna.bigphill2 wrote:Hi all

For disclosure, I am affiliated with a third party developer however, I do not know anything about any future releases unless I'm working on them and even then, I'd be breaking years worth of built up trust to say anything about it
