I think some people take Top Gear way too seriously! I thought it was hilarious!

A single class 153 is not a train. A car towing a caravan is!

From what I understand the Peak took a bit more of a bashing than they thought it would against the caravan. I can't find any pics to back that up yet though.

A very well known TV Program here in the UK. Not sure what channels you can gett but its on the BBC chanels. You maybe able to get it via satellite.

Its gotten very popular here its all about cars... and last night saw a bit about trains. If you like cars then its right up your street. If you like POWEERRRR its also right up your street. Presente by Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond... and The Stig.

Hmm, if i was a Top Gear presenter I would have chosen either one of these,

or maybe one of these:

:D :D :D

Or would you consider that cheating? I suppose the idea of making a loco for the price of a 2nd hand performance car goes down the drain though...

Kind regards

One of the guys at the GCR has said D123 had a few scratches but the BBC is paying for its repaint now after its use in that stunt. Maybe all that could be part of a scenario for 92212's GCR route when its out.

Ahh as long as it was known that work was going to be undertaken on the loco anyway! And yes, at least scum class got what it deserved, reminded me of travelling on Network SouthEast back when I was in College in the early 90's lol

I agree. A significant part of the fun is jumping on the internet after each show and p!$$ing yourself laughing at all the people who take it seriously! Any time that

And for what it's worth, over the years they have shown numerous times an appreciation of railways as a great example of engineering, just not of a speedy form of point-to-point transport. Watch the Top Gear 1948 clip with the Vincent motorbike, the Jaguar XK120 and Tornado to see what I mean, the inner rail enthusiast in Jeremy Clarkson escapes and replaces the car-only character he plays on the show. Or the clip with the race across London, where the Stig catching public transport beats James May driving a car, even in off-peak traffic.

On the topic of road-rail vehicles, it's not a surprise to see a Ford Ranger or Toyota Hilux ute with retractable Hi-Rail wheels running along the standard gauge interstate line near here for track inspection or transport to simple maintenance jobs, especially for inspections on hot days when rails can buckle. They use the regular rear-wheel drive transmission of the ute with the standard road tyres for traction, the front set of road wheels are not in contact with the rails and the back set of rail wheels are just for guidance purposes. Tram rescue vehicles use the same principle but applied to a tow truck instead of a ute or light truck.

In Melbourne there is also RTL1 - the single member of the Victorian RTL (road-transferable locomotive) class imported in the mid 1990's intended for grain service on isolated branch lines that are now closed. Being a general failure in it's intended purpose, it is in indefinite warm storage, is probably the cleanes loco in the country and is three livery changes ahead of some conventional locos in regular use!
