I hope we can get a comprehensive explanation of the new engine directly from RW. Can it offload processing work to the GPU if the hardware can handle it?

RailWorks 3: Train Simulator 2012 Announced – Exclusive High Resolution Image

I didn't see JW's cartoony self-portrait in the top-left of the image on the RS.com site :P

It is also has a wider FOV and a far higher resolution than the similar one available on the TS2012 site and facebook. So technically that image is exclusive to JW.

So, when I do get the chance to drive, currently it is normally exclusive to dry and daylight conditions. Looks like now I will be driving in the rain, at night!

forward facing trees/polygons will recieve shadows but not cast them, this is because they are special cases and it would look pretty mad if the shadows spun round like the trees do.

Alpha textures cast shadows (as do the rain drops!)

Any chance of having varying weather during the course of a scenario? I.e. starting out at Glasgow in crisp sunlight but arriving at Carlisle in a snowstorm?

Thanks RSC - this really does look and sound impressive. Thank you for thinking of us humble creators in this, block placing will make a huge difference. Needless to say we all want the moon on a stick yesterday, but there's some genuine appreciation here.

The superelevation and light engine will make a huge difference to the feel of the game. "feel" is hard to put into words, but you know when you're on the footplate or in the cab.

Thanks for all the hard work, I'm sure we have no idea the effort that had gone into this.

That will be a £2.99 add-on, but wait for the 50% Steam sale. :)

Hi,

How will this upgrade work, will it be a digital download or will there be DVD/CD available?

I find that remark insulting. Regardless of the fact that leading up to this announcement, the majority of users insisted that the AI and signalling needed a major overhaul.
This has now been conveniently overlooked, regardless of the fact no mention is made of anything being updated in that essential component of the game.
Only myself and one other poster has even mentioned the fact. :(
I am sorry RW2011.
I meant: nobody has a reason to complain anymore.
I see no major problems in the defaultes routes.

Please read the FAQ.
