JohnI am getting so many questions about the lighting etc that I thought I would give a bit more info.
Their are parts of TS2012 that we have aimed specifically to improve US siming (they work across the board of course) but we really tried to think through how we could improve the US content.
So firstly the lights are "Real" they light up the landscape and cast shadows etc, all the things they didn't do before.
Secondly we have worked hard on the underlying Physics, so now trains can be HUGE, I think we got up to two miles long (not sure exactly). It did take over 4 minutes to pass me:-)

Well I am certain my Graphics Card will not be up to this new version. I will not be spending money on a new one because being retired means ultimately being left behind unless you have a load of money. I will be keeping Steam offline from now on. I can still enjoy my own Route on the present version and this will be O.K. for me. Constant change becomes less acceptable when you get older IMHO.

To be honest James, we do not know if your graphics card will be capable or not. It may well transpire that the new graphics utilise what you already have much better than they do now.Retro wrote:Well I am certain my Graphics Card will not be up to this new version. Your last comment puzzles me slightly though, its as if you expect everyone should stay still and not move forward as it may upset the older generation? I am always a firm believer that change is good, especially when it is for the better as this obviously is.

Re: Train Simulator 2012
Derek with the screenshots of the engine with rain on the windsceen does the rain actually hit the windows when the train is in motiion?
Re: Train Simulator 2012
The only danger now is for those users whom are right on the limit of the minimum specs finding that performance is actually worse in FPS (frames per second) terms if they've a weak graphics card as it might not cope with the extra "Shader" (Vertex and Pixel) workload that the new effects will need.crumplezone wrote:You should care if it uses multi-core or not, if it uses multi-core(as Paul Jackson confirms it does) the heavy dependency on CPU load will be shared on more than single core which is currently all Railworks ultilises correctly, having the ability to processed on more than one core is going to take considerable amount of workload off the system and RAM plus since, if one looks at the gameplay list in the FAQ, that RW3 is using some of the newer graphics technology that should mean the graphics are being pull off the processor load which is currently what RW2 does, hence rubberbanding and all sorts.Kromaatikse wrote:I don't particularly care whether it uses multi-core or not. What I do care about is whether the heavy dependence on the CPU and the heavy consumption of RAM have been relieved.
Neither of those questions are directly answered in the material available so far, but the note that says that the minimum requirements are unchanged is at least slightly promising. Currently RW2 is very hard to run properly on a minim-spec machine.
RSPaul/Derek: Have any of your testers been running on an Atom+ION or an AMD E-350 based machine? That would be a very firm indicator of whether the system requirements have fallen compared to RW2.
Although, for the majority there 'might' be great performance improvements. (We need to see it in action first though, ideally through Motherwell on the WCML, Old Oak Common on Paddington - Oxford and also around Guildford as these are the areas where "I" get the most hitching..).

I do think that cow is a bit glowy, has it reached critical mass or is there some bloom?

Re: Train Simulator 2012
That was just my personal opinion Darren. Many of the older generation do like change. I however am not one of them. I have seen many changes in my lifetime and not all have been good ones. Again this is only my opinion. I was not intending to upset members of the older generation.

Re: Train Simulator 2012
this shot was taken from the bunker with a telephoto lens, just before the bomb went off...

It is an older shot with me messing about with the bloom and trees.
Well the rain, hits the windows, if you are moving it gets pushed off by the movement of the train so the direction you are travelling in effects how the rain moves.

Re: Train Simulator 2012
in RWs 3 you can just keep the graphical settings down to RWs 2 if you do not want the bells and whistles.

I guess it's a bit of a canned effect, be nice if you could adjust how sticky it is though; dirt buildup is just sticky rain in that case ( snow too ).
( and since posts appeared above mine, I'm talking about the rain ).

Wow! Will the wipers actually clear the windows? and will there be any cab bounce? (to simulate suspension)RSderek wrote:this shot was taken from the bunker with a telephoto lens, just before the bomb went off...
