Hi Everybody.
I apologize if this question has been asked before in this thread but can anybody give me the information on the computer specs required for RW3. My PC system runs Railworks 2 great at the moment following an install of a new graphics card a few months ago. However, the system is now over three years old and although top of the range at the time of buying perhaps it is time for a new PC anyway.

Also, if I do buy a new system what might be the problems in installing all my Railworks content onto it. I have purchased all my content through steam downloads so would it just be a case of logging in and all my old content would then be downloaded to the new PC or would there be more to it than that as I suspect.

Again apologies if these questions have been asked before but I did not wish to go back through 98 pages of postings.

Very much looking forward to the release of RW3 and can't wait until the 23rd, perhaps with a new system.

Bill,

The general school of thought seems to be if your existing PC can cope with RW2 it should run RW3 though it remains to be seen what kind of load greater draw distances etc. will put on things. I think this is one thing we won't know for certain until two weeks next Friday.

As regards existing DLC, my understanding is the RW3 upgrade will simply overwrite the existing RW2 setup and preserve any add-ons, DLC etc. whether these are Steam or third party ones.

Hi Bill, and welcome

I think most folks are either working on the assumption that RW3 will work as well as RW2 on their existing hardware, or at least hoping that it will, as Vern says.

Other than that I think people are going to be planning on justifying the expenditure on a new PC to 'er indoors based on the new requirements of RW3. 8)

Cheers

Bob

Hi Vern, Bob And Everybody.
Thanks for the quick replies I went off-line as I was running my oovee new class 156 down from Oxford to Readding. The oovee has become my favorite DMU since I bought it a couple weeks ago (great creation by them would recommend it to anybody).

As you advised I guess it could be a "wait and see" situation with regard to the specs needed for best running of Railworks 3. However, if I did buy a new PC with the blessing of her indoors would there be any problems installing all my content purchased by way of steam download to the new computer. Would it be a case of steam detecting that this was a different system than that it had already installed content to and thereby not allowing any downloads to anything else but that original system.

In other words, would I have to in some way inform steam of a change of system.

Again with thanks for your help

Hi Bill

You have to do nothing more than install Steam on your new system then install Railworks via the Steam client. The only restriction Steam places on you is that you can only log into one computer at a time, not a problem if you are replacing your existing system of course.

Jut to let you know that I just did that, (installed RW onto a new pc), and the only thing I had to do was to reinstall the client, paste the previously backed up games content and validate it. In addition to that, as you rightly assumed, Steam detected this was a new system and sent me a code which I had to enter to confirm my identity, but that's all. I was "back on track" :P in almost no time.

I hope that helps.

Manuel

And can I just add to what Manuel just said, could everyone make sure that their Steam account email address is very long term and not likely to close anytime soon, otherwise you will find yourself in a bothersome situation where you can't receive your steam guard code, which happened to me last week. While steam support was exceptionally helpful it did take a whole week to sort out a new email address for my account which required proof of purchase, which isn't a problem in itself, but it's not a hassle I wish to experience again quite frankly. :)
On the subject of RW3 new content, at first I wasn't too bothered I was missing out on a new route, since it was american (not my cup of tea) and since well, I was just grateful I was being updated for free. Then I saw horseshow curve... I'm still grateful, but if that's the new route then I think new users are very lucky to receive it in their new package of RW3. :D

Hi Once Again Everybody.
Thanks for the great advice. I think this system will just add to the other unused systems I have in my home office. My previous system from over three years ago is stacked under one desk. My laptop which is about two years old is now unused due to my purchase of a Samsung galaxy tab which has replaced it. Therefore, the laptop now sits on the desk by the side of the monitor I am using now looking dusty and rather neglected.

If I do replace this PC system I am using now, I think the only thing left will be to throw it out the window into the garden and hope somebody picks it up how of curiosity.

again, thanks for the advice.

Turning to a slightly different aspect, I'm wondering with superelevated track how that is going to work creating parallel tracks with the offset tool? Will these copy the superelevation or will they simply be laid flat? Will they be height adjusted depending whether on the inside or outside curve of the source track? Will there be documentation included with RW3 to explain the use of this (and all the other new processes)? Answers on a postcard in 19 days time probably, but would appreciate if anyone from RSC could give an advance clue how this will work.

Hi,

You can disable that steam guard from the settings on steam, so essentially you can use any steam obtained software on any PC without having to do the input code thing aslong as you have the steam client installed and log-in with your existing details!

with regards,

Dave.

Welcome back Derek, hope you enjoyed your break. Only read the last ten pages if you feel you can muster the enthusiasm to sort out the self inflicted confusion over what new routes and locos will be included in TS2012.
