I guess I am the same as Monsieur Walker at the moment, awaiting more clarification on themes etc.

However, what is nice to see is jimmyshand using the whole concept as a springboard to have a personal attempt at scenario building, with success! Congratulations to you and hopefully more will follow. Only problem there is he wont want to test any more scenarios now. :(

The categories are broad rather than specific areas so essentially people will be able to create any scenario they like. In fact you can enter upto 3 scenarios providing they are in different categories.

Also you may enter multipart scenarios (upto 3 parts) and these will count as ONE entry.

We are trying to allow for plenty of variety and interest without excluding any particular area that someone might want to do.

Must admit I am tempted to enter but I'm not quite sure how to tackle it with default / freeware stock only. Tend to like sitting down with an old timetable and recreating real-world workings, bit difficult with limited stock. Have to have a think...

Always up for a bit of testing mate! The only downside I can foresee to creating your own is that you know what to expect, it's more exciting to drive someone elses scenario because you never know what little surprise might turn up, like an unexpected class 20 loco-turn heading the other way or racing a class 40 out of Edinburgh on an adjacent platform!

I think my creative spark has been born and I'm really keen to put some long wished for ideas into practice. One idea I'm keen to develop is multi-part scenarios. Specifically I'm thinking of a fictional "shift" of work consisting of 5 or 6 scenarios grouped together that each kick off where the previous left off. Working within the route size constraints of Railworks you would for example be a London driver based at Old Oak Common. First job is to drive a class 50 from the depot into Paddington. Once complete you'd then load up the next scenario and move onto your next job which would be to take a Peak hauled mail train out from Paddington to Didcot. For added realism and immersion you would be able to see the 50 you'd just driven in on the previous scenario parked in Paddington. On arrival at Didcot there would be a waiting express 47 to go back into London. Starting scenario 3 sees you take control of the 47 back to London and so on and so on!!!
I'm also keen to explore the idea of 'diesel gala' scenarios. Similar to the above where multiple grouped scenarios would see you do consecutive runs that follow in a logical sequence. Just need to work out a suitable preserved style route.

I'd best shut up now or I'm in danger of giving away good ideas for the contest!!

On top of the default content we already have permission to use the following:
Anything by Simon Coop (RailVision) - Currently the class 90 and class 142
2 steam loco's by KevMT
MeshTools Class 24 (with 9 varients I think)
Any of Digital Tractions freeware content (class 25 for example)

In regard to reskins quite a few frequent re-skinners have given permission for us to use any of their re-skins.

The stock packs are shaping up to be quite varied so hopefully you will not have to adapt your plans too much.

However, using the stock available in the best way is going to be part of the challenge and all entries will have the same stock to work from.

I hope you decide to enter

I'm definitely considering entering, but I want to see just what I have to work with before I commit to anything.

I do have some interesting ideas, though.
The key to knowledge is not to rely on others to teach you it.

If there is something particular you would like (and it is default or freeware) please do send me a PM so I can ask for permission to include it in the freeware packs.
