Hi all we have all heard of mistakes made pressing T and flattening all our hard crafted landscapes, but I didnt realise that it was reversible, yesterday whilst playing, sorry working on my new route I did the dreaded T and wallop it all went flat, so I pressed the back button and it reverted? has this always been the case or is this a new thing updated I never thought of trying it before I though it was just curtains when you did that??

Really? I've never noticed, I always thought it was permanent but if its reversible then thats fantastic :)

Guessing it doesn't work once you save - I had to bail out of the game once after doing that.

Useful tip though!

Thanks for the TIP - stops having to quit the sim; alt+Ctrl=del and losing any work that you have done previously.

Once you couldn't even quit to make it do that - it used to automatically save even if I crashed out and/or told it not to save! The only way to undo it in the past was to have a reasonably recent backup of terrain tiles to put back in over the top, but if it can now be undone using back then this is excellent.

As long as you ran the World Editor in a window, there was never any problem. Just close the window with the 'X' button in the top right corner and you could exit without saving.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you're incorrect Mike but when this happened to me (about a year ago now so I think we can use this method to "fix" it) and I clicked close, it still saved. I know, strange! Perhaps it was just me but I am relieved to see that there is a get out of jail free card in the little cross when running in windowed mode - one of the best tips for both route and scenario creation/editing.

You can still do this in full mode. Just press the Windows icon button and exit Railworks from Task Manager.

Best wishes,

I don't know, because I just opened a route of my own in the World Editor (in a window), pressed the 'T' key to ruin the landscape. Then clicked the 'x' to close the window and a box came up 'Do you wish to save changes' to which I clicked NO.

When I ran the editor again, the landscape was fine, just as it was before I pressed 'T'

Hi,

Been there done that when i got the idea into my head that "T" was for track..........

To avoid this one........
use RW Tools and open the file..........\Steam\steamapps\common\railworks\Assets\Kuju\RailSimulatorCore\InputMappers\Editor Mode.bin

find.... (its about 2/3s through the listing)
<iInputMapper-cInputMapEntry d:id="19245016">
<State d:type="sInt32">0</State>
<Device d:type="cDeltaString">Keyboard</Device>
<ButtonState d:type="cDeltaString">ButtonDown</ButtonState>
<Button d:type="cDeltaString">Key_T</Button>
<ShiftButton d:type="cDeltaString">NoShift</ShiftButton>
<Axis d:type="cDeltaString">NoAxis</Axis>
<Name d:type="cDeltaString">EditExportTerrain</Name>
<Parameter d:type="cDeltaString"></Parameter>
<NewState d:type="sInt32">0</NewState>
</iInputMapper-cInputMapEntry>

edit the line
<ShiftButton d:type="cDeltaString">NoShift</ShiftButton>
to read
<ShiftButton d:type="cDeltaString">Shift</ShiftButton>

and SAVE :D

To get the terrain to change now you have to hold the shift key as well as the T key :D
NO more lost work when one gets the silly idea that T is for track
The only down side to this pearly gem is that any steam update or Varify files will undo it but its so quick to redo.

I claim no credit for this pearly word of wisdom, just passing on something that's been a life saver to a few

good on you Ross, looks like our New Zealand number 8 wire attitude can come up with an answer for any problem!
That T key accidentally pressed caused me hours of extra work, the 'shift' is just the extra safe guard needed, bit like a safety catch on a gun.

I don't recommend changing the 'T' key to something like 'Shift-T'. The problem is that, in time since you will be modifying a default file, Steam will change your modifications back to the default one. Since you may not know when this has happened there is a good chance that you will press 'T' and do wholesale damage. I changed mine a few times but never do so now. I think it's safer to be perpetually careful rather than think that post modification it is for ever safe.

Quite why RW haven't fixed this one yet is beyond me. It's such a simple fix It's been mentioned copious times and still we are faced with a problem we cannot satisfactorily resolve ourselves.

Probably because if RW fix the 'problem' then those thousands of route builders who have never had this happen to them will then complain that they have to remember a new key combination when they do wish to set their DEM terrain. As you have to press the 'T' key hundreds of times to fully populate a large route, pressing key combinations instead of a single key is a lot more fiddly.

The T key has to be the most insane feature of Railworks. Who thought it up I wonder? Why would you want to flatten your meticulously crafted terrain all in one go?

This weekend I have spent hours building my route through a rainforest complete with mountains and hills. I have laid two miles of track with all the attendant scenery. It would have been easy for me to keep the route flat and it certainly would have been a lot quicker. But I decided to build hills, mountains and lots of trees and rock formations. If I say so myself, it looked beautiful. Then this afternoon I went to press the R key to select the RWSO China track and hit the dreaded T key by mistake. Instant destruction of the terrain.

I stupidly thought it was salvageable, and found this very post. Pressing the Back button does indeed help, but it only reverts back tile by tile. I didn't check the rest of the route and thought it would be back to normal so I saved the route. Big mistake. Now there are great big chunks missing out of the terrain and my painstaking route building has been a complete waste of time. I should have backed it all up, which I intended to do at close of play today.

Please RSC, lose this stupid key in TS2012.

Padster.
