Re: Undrivable Locomotives
Hi, I'm struggling to find the issue here, The 56xx loco clearly states that it is difficult to drive and requires expert controls BEFORE you buy, surely that is the time for deciding as to whether it is what you want to buy it or not. I didn't feel anyone pulling my arm up behind my back to make me buy it - although i have had a few cross words with it since. It gives something to challenge me in my driving technique, & there are other locos if I am too knackered to drive properly & want a leisurely drive.

Re: Undrivable Locomotives
Are you sure about that? I can't find any reference to the 'difficulty' or the need for expert controls on the Steam page. No problem for me, as I frequent this forum and know how to drive steam (sort of), but this might put off some buyers who weren't aware of the requirements before they purchased, as has been mentioned earlier in this thread - it would be unfortunate if that drove some people away from Railworks all together..markpullinger wrote:Hi, I'm struggling to find the issue here, The 56xx loco clearly states that it is difficult to drive and requires expert controls BEFORE you buy
Some developers have included simple driving versions of their rolling stock, as well as ones with prototypical controls - for example, the Dave Brindley Class 317. Driving the simple version of the 317 does not mean that you have use the Railworks simple controls, but it does make it easier to use for novices.

Lots of steam and early diesels from 1959 to 1963.

Re: Undrivable Locomotives
Part of the problem is having to control locos with the mouse. The RailDriver cab controller makes things much simpler because the controls are there in front of you all the time.

Re: Undrivable Locomotives
Hi, Alan, I did my homework before I bought - I looked at the forums & the railsimulator blog & watched the video to see if it was what I wanted - yes it was a tough decision (made easier by the sale) but I can't say I wasn't warned!
I agree about the Raildriver - wouldn't need the HUD half as much if I could see & feel where and in what position the controls were . It is on my wishlist!

Re: Undrivable Locomotives
Precisely - there is no warning on Steam for the casual purchaser, and they are the ones who may be put off when they have trouble driving the loco. We are OK - we read the forums, but I suspect that most users don't.markpullinger wrote:Hi, Alan, I did my homework before I bought - I looked at the forums & the railsimulator blog & watched the video to see if it was what I wanted - yes it was a tough decision (made easier by the sale) but I can't say I wasn't warned!

There was no warning on steam I found out the hard way.

Re: Undrivable Locomotives
I don't find these things difficult to drive, once you know what to do it's pretty easy.
I do get annoyed at guessing how to do it in the first place.
Most flight sims I buy have a decent manual and loads of background information. This enables me to fly a complex B377 Stratocruiser no problem.
With Railworks locos I have to guess what is modelled and what is not. Guess what optimal settings are etc.
And let's face it, sitting like a dummy in a small toilet shaped cabin pressing the AWS every minute is a bit dull...allow us the option to switch it off or hear it from outside.....there is more to see.
And when I drive my car I don't look down into the foot well to press the brake!

I Mean, that should do it?

Re: Undrivable Locomotives
DLC generally come with manuals, which install into... Railworks\Manuals\ ( EN for english ones ). I have no idea why you need to look down to brake.
My posts are my opinion, and should be read as such.

You don't drive most cars using a mouse either
Re: Undrivable Locomotives
Yes, thanks for that, this dummy finally found the manuals!
