RW won't run after move to new PC

Post by jetstream »

I've had RW installed on my laptop and have now tried to move it (ie copy) it to my new Desktop following the advice on the Steam site.

I logged into my Steam account without any problem and can bring up the initial RW Screen but on clicking on 'Start' nothing is happening.

The new PC is running Windows 7 (64bit) and I've tried to set up Railworks on a partition of the HD (E:\Games\Steam etc). It all appears to be there....so any ideas?

Thanks

Ive' just noticed that on my laptop version, all entries in the packager and package manager have disappeared.

Windows 7 (64 bit) should be no problem.
I use C:\steam.

What I did:
- my own route(s) > I made *.rpk files > on memory stick > copy to the new pc.
- installed a "fresh" RW in C:\steam
- imported the *.rpk files
- re-installed the payware and the freeware.

Hi jetstream

Try to open the folder \\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Railworks\Install and run the following .exe: files PhysX_6.10.25_SystemSoftware.exe and NetFx20SP2_x86.exe and at laste open the DirectX9 folder an run the DXSETUP.exe
With Best Regards

Ran a 'verify cache' and it found 99 files that needed restoring [don't know why because it was a straight copy from the working copy on the laptop], then pressed 'Start' and up came the message saying PhysX needed to be installed
Ghostrain - many thanks. Installed PhysX and problem solved.

This is common if you've edited a route/scenario, used reskins which overwrite the original items (perhaps to apply a proper logo), installed sound packs or made any other changes to content distributed by Steam. It is designed to pick up any differences between what the files are and what they should be, the unfortunate problem being that it does restore files you've deliberately changed back to their virgin state as well as doing the same to broken/missing files which you do want restored.

Another thing to check is what screen resolution is selected. Even if it's a valid one, hit the button to try it out, as an internal reference to it is saved when you do that, and the reference will likely be different from your old machine.
The key to knowledge is not to rely on others to teach you it.
