Hi guys, thanks for the ongoing feedback.

First of all the route does not need GARL assets. If you run it through RW tools it will say GARL assets missing. However this will not effect you and you can download it freely. The garl assets turned to milk bottles so when removing them I was bound to miss a few.

Karibian, I hope this will allow you to download and then perhaps turn the updated textures on the 317 / 318 into National Express livery :-)

Regarding the gradients. I built the route as a fun hobby and did not go down the path of researching gradients to the letter. I plotted my gradients by putting a marker by each notable place, i.e. bridge over the track and noting the google earth ground level. So if a bridge at Brentwood showed X metres and the next one at Shenfield showed xx metres then I would ensure the track followed that height. Its a rough round the edges idea but I don't think its a million miles out.

Re the track work: When I started the route I had very little knowledge and had to use different track rules to get junctions to fit. Some of these rules mean that for a short stretch it will show speed in kilometers. This is not ideal but I am sorry to say has continued on the extended section and not likely to change. All I can say in my defence is that I hope it will not spoil enjoyment as ultimately if you are driving it as a sim then you should be watching the speed signs by the track and not an onscreen monitor that you would not have in real life.

Finally the shed at Rochford is there although smaller then in real life as I am using default assets and noted that Southend Airport is on the wrong side of the track on the map screen. I will change this for the final release

I have just finished all the provided scenarios and I like the route very much. Congratulations on on making it. I am not keen on the 317 but hopefully this can be improved on re- physics and cabin appearance etc. Look forward to version 3 and someone to make more scenarios ! :D

I think the 317 included here is the original Rail Simulator version?

Hopefully it'll go faster than the 455 I'm doing is going... I promised Richard one as well I think. I have only seen shots of the older style 317 in NX grey/white, do they still have any later ones?

can't see any of the later versions in national express livery to be honest. All seem to be the original style unit

EDIT

Just found an all white national express version of the newer style unit on this vid

I'm having an issue even getting it out of the Zip. It's corrupt and I can't extract it, even with 7-Zip, and that's saying somthing! Anybody got any ideas?
I was looking forward to giving it a video to say thanks to the author, but I can't because of the above.

Ah, the 'polar bear' livery for NatEx, must do that one some time - even Mk3's are being churned out in the livery now!

Hi Guys,

Have been having a fiddle and have come up with a 317/6, made up from the DTSO's and MSO from the 318 and the TSO from the 455.
Did this more as a proof of concept than anything else, i'm sure other will give far better accounts of these units then i will with my basic photoshop skills :)

Not too sure I like that full white one, seems a bit boring to paint :p

IIRC you need to use the 317 physics also.

Yeah me too, but NXEA seem to be outshopping all their EMU's in it, probably because it's nearing the end of their franchise so there's little point in giving them the full National Express makeover!

Yes that makes sense, is that a simple case of replacing the reference to the simulation file in the .bin? I'm more of a route builder then a reskinner :)

Any chance someone could knock up some loco-hauled or freight scenario's for this route?

Not being funny but the 317 is about as much interest to me as a Conservative Party election broadcast.

This is a great route but so far nothing created for it scenario wise.

Jeez this place is so touchy, people are allowed to express their opinions on something surely?? be it negative or positive??

This is not a dig at this specific model, it's just commenting on a soul-less unit in general. It is freeware and as such I would never say anything directly negative about the 317 however it is not of interest to me as I prefer loco scenarios and the only units I can tolerate are the top-drawer quality types like the 156 for example.

My comment was purely to suggest that it would be nice to see some loco-hauled scenarios emerge for this route as the route itself is on par for quality with the very best payware routes even the mighty WCML. The 317 however, although good for freeware is at the bottom end of the spectrum of quality traction available for this sim.

Sometimes I think the problems with this forum are not down to people being negative but instead the touchy types who go on a power counter-offensive every time something remotely controversial or debate-inducing appears. Mountains out of mole-hills springs to mind, drama queens galore.

I agree with that as well Bob, its detracting from what is a celebration of an awful freeware route.

Speaking of which, I must do some research into weird moves on the line, I have a feeling the reason we are struggling for scenarios currently is the lack of realistic stock for the route. If anyone has any realistic suggestions, please make them be known.

Come on mate, nobody said the route is awful only the soul-less units that run on it! The route is arguably one of the best routes in the sim payware or freeware. Scenario's, now you're talking, how about a couple of 20's on a leaf-killer mission? Class 31 on an engineers train? Class 50 on a railtour? in fact on the railtour theme you could take your pick from any of the loco's available.

This is a route the farthest from my knowledge that there possibly could be. I have never in my life been to the region or anywhere near it so I could be fooled by anything! What used to run on that line in the past? say each decade from the 70's onwards? Any modern Railworks route can easily pass for any era post 1970's providing age-appropriate AI stock is used.
