I'm sorry to dissapoint you Rik but I have no plans to do any LMS period 3 coaches at the moment. I'm not saying never but if i did it would have to be a separate project. Its just too much work to include as part of a loco pack... learnt that the hard way. I basically prefer making loco's to coaches anyhow and have a list as long as my arm of things I'd like to do. The thing with the LNER coaches I did for the A4 Add on packs is this... however you paint a mark 1 its never going to look anything like a Gresley Teak or a Streamlined Coronation. Paint a mark 1 up as an LMS coach and it does a passible imitation.

Fair comment Matt and thanks for taking the time out to explain -- I completely get what you're saying in respect to substitutions and I wasn't trying to make waves|

It was more a question to the "Powers that be" at JT as to whether more prototypical coaches were likely given that the Patriot is on the horizon, too and that one's very much on my wish list

Thats ok Rik... just wanted to let people know how the land lies as far as custom coaches concerned. I think its easy to underestimate the work involved in coach making to the required standard for RW, but it does have a bearing on what I develop as I'm sure you can understand.

I dont want to get off topic but the Patriots are progressing very well indeed. I wish I could show you them but thats JT's call. Its funny how things have worked out really. I never really thought of myself as a great LMS fan. Railway modelling as a kid it was all LNER and SR stuff. Its grown on me as I've aged I guess ... my RW trainset is developing a decidely LMS flavour!

I think my favourite is a Gerald Broom painting called "Coronation Scot passing Standish, 1937"... lovely moody sky and good rendition of the Blue livery...

If any of the illustrious chaps from RSC are reading this, here's an idea for a DLC pack: a set of period III LMS coaches (in LMS/BR liveries) with some nice scenarios using the class 5 (in LMS black), along with the jubilee. Pretty please.

Seconded. The P3s lasted a long time into BR and got to some pretty far flung places.

I have bought the Coronation, both "blue" version and the "red & black" add on.

The loco models are really great, the "steaming coal pusher" is a very nice touch, even if the steam effect is somewhat overdone.

The supplied rolling stock (re- painted Mk1s) are really fine except for the purist . Also we must remember that the articulated red and gold stock only ran briefly on test runs in the UK before being shipped to the US. Perhaps some clever individual could repaint the JT articulated LNER "Coronation " stock to give a passable imitation of the LMS red and gold "US" stock ? I have already quickly repainted the LNER articulated stock into silver overall to give a fair impression of an LNER "Silver Jubilee" train to couple with an appropriate silver JT A4 loco.

I may have obtained a corrupted download, but the vacuum brake pressure reading does not show up on the HUD on my Coronations and the physics in my download seem to be wrong leaving the loco underpowered. ( e.g. I cannot achieve more than 14 mph when breasting Beattock Summit with a 9 coach train, when I think a real Coronation could and can do this at around 54 mph.) . I will contact JT support about this or probably try a re-download first.

Despite the included scenarios being fine for what they are. the only realistic routes for Coronations really are the payware WCML North and the excellent Settle and Carlisle (freeware on UKTS). The Coronation Scot must have been diverted over the Settle -Carlisle at some point surely ?

The WCML North ( modern) route is really head and shoulders the best route available for Railworks. I enjoy running modern stock over it , Pendalinos, Voyagers, Class 66s etc.. However it really comes to life when you make a copy the route and remove the wires, gantries, transformers etc (via RW Tools) & the M74 motorway, modern vehicles, etc (via RW editor) and add the closed stations like Floriston, Rockcliffe, Beattock also signal boxes like Quintinshill , Greskine etc.

A few hours work gives you a fantastic steam era route ideal for running those Coronations, Jubilees and the forthcoming Patriots. Even if you just remove the wires and gantries the WCML route looks so much better without the modern clutter.
