Hello!
Was wondering if anybody had any ideas how to alter the distance you can travel on the 8 Camera view?
Many thanks,
Paul

Hi Trainmad
I posted a question about the cameras a few months ago and no real answers were forthcoming; perhaps one of the mysteries of RW that the devotees are either not particularly interested in or haven't hacked into.
The camera postion (railside ones) must be set somewhere are are they randomly located by the program. Why, for example, do you get a succession of overhead shots then one lineside then one overhead then a succession of linesides etc? And the universal camera (is that 8?) acts as if its on the end of an elactic band, catching up with the train after it has moved a certain distance.
I would like the facilty to be able to set camera positions along the route - perhaps something that could be incorporated into a future update?

Re: Camera 8 View
I agree, it would be great to understand how to hack these. The only thing I am aware of you can change is the FOV, but only for all cameras. Personally I would love to be able to adjust these individually so you could have different FOVs for cab and outside shots. It would also be good to be able to move the Camera 4 positions ie untether the camera.
Having looked around the files I can't see anything obviously hackable, but I think we have learned a lot about scripting since I last recall this being discussed so maybe someone has some ideas?

Re: Camera 8 View
The view 4 tracking camera is located randomly.
The topic of altering the maximum distance from the player train has been raised before, I think with the conclusion that it's hardcoded and cannot be altered by the user.
The tutorial scenarios have scripted camera changes, but making this happen in your own work would require some LUA programming skills.

Re: Camera 8 View
I think it may be due to the fact that currently Railworks only renders a 4km x 4km square, and so the camera (8) has to move because of this so that it is able to render the next square.
Sorry if that seems confusing, but thats my view on it.
